5 other started out with cig a like figured out that vaping could work for me permanently if I had a stronger vape , and quickly advanced to better set ups to seal the deal.

Ditto.
From the moment I picked up a cigalike, I saw more hope than all the "official" cessation methods combined. I quickly moved to "ego size", and weaned myself off cigarettes in about a month. After 26 years of pack a day smoking, it has been over 2 years since I quit.

[edit: to add]
Got my sister to quit almost the same way. The cigalike got her started, but she couldn't step away completely from the analogs, only cut down. I couldn't get her to try bigger setups for months. When she finally tried something bigger, she was finally able to quit. I'm still working on her husband.

I'll go with #3 also. I bought a cigalike back in, I believe, early 2011 and considered it worthless. It came with 10 "Marlboro" flavored cartridges that I used up and I never bought replacements. It also made my cheeks hurt from sucking on it so hard in a failed attempt to get some satisfaction from it. This was usually followed by lighting up a cigarette to relieve my cravings.

I purchased an evod setup late September 2013, and met with complete success, quitting cigarettes within a 24 hour period.

#1 here.
I used to buy 3 packs of cigs at a time until one day I replaced a pack with a terrible disposable. I loved it so much I immediately began buying disposables rather than packs of cigs and within a week I was completely off cigs. It was expensive until I got my starter kit (aqua vapor 510 kit) but well worth it.

I am a #5. The day I bought my first ecig I stopped analogs. I did not use ecigs to wean off. I gutted it out. For me it's an all or nothing proposition so I cold turkey'd using an ecig. I am not saying I have had my last one as not to jinx myself but I am currently as far away from having an analog as I ever have been save for a 2 year period where I stopped using nic patches. Sorry for the run on sentence. My start was auspicious and I didn't crack so my desire to stop was strong. I was an almost 40 year PAAHAD smoker. I bought an MVP2 with a Nautilus topper and those lousy BDCs and was so frustrated in the beginning. I won't bore you with the details but suffice it to say I am well geared up now, DIY most of my juice and not looking back. I am a first time winner. I hope everyone here will become a winner too!

#2 for me.

I wish I had started out with something better, but cigalikes seemed like the way to go, only I kept bumming smokes all the while trying to be satisfied. Which I wasn't. I then moved to ego style and I bummed smokes less, but still bummed them none-the-less. Then moved up to a VV/VW system, which wasn't that great, but it wasn't until then I was able to finally stop bumming. Now, I'm a Provari guy and not only would I not bum a smoke, I wouldn't take one if someone wanted to give me one and even offered to pay me to smoke it!

It's been a little over two years since I bummed a smoke and I'm so happy to be smoke and stink free. I actually truly enjoy vaping! A LOT!

#3. I messed around with cigalikes for a minute. I liked them in theory and they would get me through times where I knew I'd have to go a few hours without smoking, but I always went back to the analogs. Once I got my first MVP2, it was game-over for smoking. I've since moved on to mechs and RBAs, but I still keep a VV/tank system around for backup.

For vapers who have quit smoking using e-cigs: Were you able to quit the first time around and what did you use?

Here are the options:

1. Yes, I started with cigalikes, used them until I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.
2. Yes, I started with 2nd or 3rd generation PVs, used them ‘til I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.
3. No, I started out with cigalikes and they didn't work for me. I later quit using more advanced PVs.
4. No, I started out with 2nd or third generation PVs and they didn't work for me. But I was later able to quit.
5. Other (please explain)

(I'm asking because most of the studies on the effectiveness of e-cigs for smoking cessation don't take into account what products are being used by smokers making their first quit attempt and also because some of these studies are are more like static snapshots as opposed to full length movies.)

EDIT: Seeing some of the initial responses, I realize there's a flaw in my methodology. Nos. 3 and 4 should take into account that on the first attempt some people never quit entirely and were dual users the whole time. The "went back to smoking" phrase rules out that possibility. I think 3 and 4 should have left out "and I went back to smoking." So should I ask the mods to shut down this thread and start over, edit the OP or just let it run its course?

FURTHER EDIT: I edited it. Executive decision. p.s. I'm a No. 3.

Yes, I started with cigalikes, but they costed more than cigarettes so I had to keep buying other stuff to cut recurrent costs.
