For vapers who have quit smoking using e-cigs: Were you able to quit the first time around and what did you use?

Here are the options:

1. Yes, I started with cigalikes, used them until I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.
2. Yes, I started with 2nd or 3rd generation PVs, used them ‘til I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.
3. No, I started out with cigalikes and they didn't work for me. I later quit using more advanced PVs.
4. No, I started out with 2nd or third generation PVs and they didn't work for me. But I was later able to quit.
5. Other (please explain)

(I'm asking because most of the studies on the effectiveness of e-cigs for smoking cessation don't take into account what products are being used by smokers making their first quit attempt and also because some of these studies are are more like static snapshots as opposed to full length movies.)

EDIT: Seeing some of the initial responses, I realize there's a flaw in my methodology. Nos. 3 and 4 should take into account that on the first attempt some people never quit entirely and were dual users the whole time. The "went back to smoking" phrase rules out that possibility. I think 3 and 4 should have left out "and I went back to smoking." So should I ask the mods to shut down this thread and start over, edit the OP or just let it run its course?

FURTHER EDIT: I edited it. Executive decision. p.s. I'm a No. 3.

January 24, 2014 I walked into a vape shop and left with an itaste vv/vw and 18mg juice and haven't touched a stinky since!

1. I started with a cigalike I got at the mall 5 years ago. That didn't really have the power and vapor I needed but it did introduce me to the world of vaping and led me indirectly to ecf. About then, the 510's were out so I got one of them and 2 weeks later I was off cigarettes. It's been 5 years and a lot of upgrades but I am nearly off of nicotine as well (4mg).

Sat down on patio one nice afternoon. Had a bottle of rum, my new 510 kit and some analogues. Puffed on the 510 for a while(36mg juice)nice. Then had a ciggy or two. Then I went back to the 510 even better. Thought I might try just the 510 and see how long I lasted. Drank plenty of rum and still no ciggies. That was April 2011, still vaping and loving it. Magic!!!

Me too! Except it was one year ago tomorrow (365 days today... Yippee!) and I left with a Vision Spinner 1300, a Protank 2 and a bottle of 24mg juice. And I'm still using this same exact set-up - the exact same gear - today! (plus an air-flow control valve, now, and different 24mg juice:)) Happy Birthday to me...

I smoked cigs for years and switched to a tobacco pipe when the cigs went crazy in price. I guess I smoked a pipe for ten years. Found this place late last winter or early spring, ordered an EMAX starter kit and pretty much quit the day I got it. I fired the pipe up a couple of times the first week just out of curiosity really. Never since though. I did sort out making a couple of Puck style battery packs and researched the rebuildables and got a Taifun GT and sorted it so bought another to never have any down time. Then of course I got into juice making and have a ton of nic juice on hand and pg, vg and a bunch of flavors. What with 12 sanyo enloop batteries for my pucks, plenty of juice making material and two solid set ups plus my starter kit as back up, I'm pretty much set for a long time.

I have a former smoke buddy.... (#1 for her)

She went to a wake where a close friend died of lung cancer, smoked for over 30 years. She found it ironic that she and a bunch of others stood outside smoking. Made the decision to quit. Went to 7/11 and bought logic disposables. That was over 2 and a half years ago. To this day she is still uses the same ones. When I first saw her using it, it started the process for me.... I have tried to show her many times better devices. But she is sticking to what she knows and it works for her.

I think the results will be a bit skewed toward more advanced users, simply because this is a forum dedicated to helping people improve their experiences. With the disposables and cigalikes, the likelihood of quitting may not be as good as more advanced devices, but overall, I think they are still better than every other method combined. It's where I started (for 3 weeks). My sister also refused the bigger batteries. Only after 6 months of struggling did she finally go to an ego size. I'm about to push her into VV soon. APVs? maybe next year. Just my 1.5 cents. :)

... Having access to B&M meant I wouldn't worry about buying my supplies weeks in advance.

Weeks??!
I'm stocked up for at least 1 year or more. Maybe 30 spare coils for about 6 or 7 different tanks, 1 non VV, 1 VV, 1 APV and 4 batteries for it. Also make my own juice, have about 200ml steeping, and enough nic in the freezer for at least 12 months.

I think I need more ego batteries, or at least a second APV. :/
