Thank you for taking the time to read this post and welcome to the wonderful world of vaping ( a term commonly used to refer to inhaling vapor from an electronic cigarette) . The questionnaire below is designed to assist you in the sometimes daunting task of choosing an electronic cigarette (sometimes referred to as mod, PV or APV) that works best for you. Answering the questions below then copying and pasting them along with your answers will help us to help you make an informed decision and hopefully lead to a successful and happy experience with vaping.

Wherever possible vaping slang or jargon is defined within quotation marks and colored red for easy reference. This is by no means meant as a comprehensive glossary of terms. A very good guide can be found on these forums here Forum Glossary - ECF InfoZone. It might be helpful to keep this active in another window for easy reference when you come across a term you dont understand.

For those who are more visual another good reference can be found here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3230-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-juice-delivery-attachments.html

Taking the time to answer these questions will:

Assist you in thinking about your wants and needs in regards to an electronic cigarette or other device.

Assist forums members in helping you select something that works for you based on your criteria.

1. How many cigarettes did you smoke or are currently smoking per day? A number is very helpful since my idea of a heavy or casual smoker could be very different from yours.

2. Did you smoke ultra lights, lights, full flavor, filter-less, roll-your-own or cigars?

3. How important is it for your electronic cigarette (also called a mod, PV or APV) to look like and feel like a cigarette to you?

3. Do you like things big, bulky and durable or do you prefer small and compact?

4. Which shape is more pleasing to you to hold: something cylindrical or a box shape?

5.How long would you like or need the batteries to last in a typical day.For some this an 8 hour shift or could be 16 or more hours depending on your lifestyle.

6. How much effort do you want to put into vaping? Do you want something that requires little effort or are you more of a tinkerer? Generally extremely active lifestyles or someone who's constantly on the go doesn't have a lot of time but the reverse could be true for you as well.

7.Do you think you would prefer tobacco, menthol, fruit and candy or dessert flavors?

8.Do you think you would like a warmer or a cooler vape? (A warm vape uses higher voltage or lower resistances to make the vapor warmer in your mouth while a cool vape works just the opposite) Also let us know if you have sensitivities to cold or an aversion to hot liquids.

9. What is more important to you, throat hit (that feeling of weight or tickle hitting the back of your throat when you inhale) , vapor production (the amount of vapor or steam produced by your device and/or e-liquid) or flavor(The intensity of the taste of the vapor)? Again its okay to have more than one answer but please list them in order of importance.

10.Which is more important to you, price, quality, ease of use, or reliability? Its okay to have more than one answer just list them in order of importance.

11.How much are you looking to spend on your initial purchase or upgrade?

12. Have you looked at any other accessories such as clearomizers, cartomizers, tanks, pre-filled cartidges etc and do you have any questions about how they work or what they are?

13. Would you feel more comfortable vaping (popular term used to refer to inhaling vapor from an electronic cigarette, mod, PV or APV) in public or do you prefer to do it in private?

14. Whats your favorite color?

15. Do you have any disabilities or other difficulties that might have a bearing on your choice? ex: some peoples wrists aren't strong enough to hold a big battery mod or their eyesight doesnt allow easy filling of ejuice (the liquid containing nicotine and flavoring used in electronic cigarettes, also referred to as nicquid or e-liquid)

16. Have you thought about securing backup devices in the event of failure or purchasing extra batteries?

17. Do you think you would prefer a battery that starts at 3.7 volts and gradually drops in voltage and vapor production as it drains or would you prefer the voltage to stay the same throughout the life of the battery?

I think that's at least a start, I'm sure we'll be adding more to it as more people contribute to the thread/or think of other additional questions that would be helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and everyone's input is appreciated as this will hopefully help forum regulars and new people alike.

for juice:

do you prefer a strong, mild, or nonexistant throat hit?
do you think you'd prefer a cooler vapor, or a warmer vapor?

vv:

is the ability to control and dial in the temperature of your vapor important to you?
is the ability to control and dial in the amount of nicotine juice vaporized per hit?

Unlooked for benefit of this.Had someone asking for advice earlier on what to buy and they wanted to be spoon fed without doing any homework or research of their own. They couldnt take 3 minutes to fill this out so I could help them and give them a better recommendation than just spitting out my favoite device like some were doing in the thread. So I decided I couldnt spare three minutes to answer him either :)

Decided I'd have a go at this. This isn't going to be like the other questionnaire that suggested models based on peoples answers.I'm going to leave that up to forum members, but its my hopes that people can direct people new to vaping to this thread where they can answer the questions and paste them into their post helping us to give the best device for their needs/wants and price range.

If anyone sees anything that they think needs to be added please post in a reply and Ill update the original post. Thanks for everyones help.

1. How many cigarettes did you smoke or are currently smoking per day? A number is very helpful since my idea of a heavy or casual smoker could be very different from yours.

2. How important is it for a pv to look like an analog to you?

3.How long would you like or need the batteries to last?

4.Do you think you would prefer tobacco, menthol, fruit and candy or dessert flavors?

5.Which is more important to you, price, quality, ease of use, or reliability? Its okay to have more than one answer just list them in order of importance.

6.How much are you looking to spend on your initial purchase or upgrade?

7. Have you looked at any juice delivery systems or other accessories?

8. Would you feel more comfortable vaping in public or do you prefer to do it in private?

9. Whats your favorite color?

10. Do you have any disabilities or other difficulties that might have a bearing on your choice? ex: some peoples wrists aren't strong enough to hold a big battery mod or their eyesight doesnt allow easy filling of cartomizers.

Nice idea zapped! I wish I would have found a " one thread does all" like this. Here are a couple of other suggestions:

Would you prefer a tube shaped or a box shaped device ?

Would you prefer a device that you just squeeze a small onboard bottle to get juice into your carto / atty or do you prefer filling them manually?

Would you prefer an unflavored juice (many have found that this is closer to the taste of a cigarette than any tobacco flavored juice).

In addition to your list, these would have helped me greatly.

Great job!

One small problem with some of the suggestions (would prefer tube or box? Size? etc.) is that most noobs really don't know what they want and assume they want something that looks like what they know: a cigarette. If they've evolved past that particular point in their vaping journey then they'll be more receptive to some of the the other finer details of the questions. I know that for the first 6 or 8 months of my vaping road I thought the box mod idea was "stupid". Why would anyone want to use something that looked like that?? hahaha! Now...after someone gave me a 3.7 Gripper I've changed my tune big time. But that was only a few months ago...so I'm a recent convert. I also know that while I could accept an eGo/vGo sized battery okay after the first month of vaping...the monster Bolts, SBs, LavaTubes, etc. seemed too...industrial. Like sucking on a piece of plumbing equipment. Changed my tune on that too...after the 3.7 Gripper...when I realized the joys of replaceable batteries. Now the "big" mods and box mods are about all I use. But it did take some easing into the idea! PRICE is always a consideration with me. And durability. I'd rather invest in a few good mechanical mods that won't have chips and wires and screens fail and are repairable than some of the fancier stuff. And I like a bit of variety. Different mods (shapes & sizes & button types) for different moods...and vapes.

But the questionnaire is an excellent start!!!!!

Do you realize you're going to need at least two batteries? :)
Seriously, I think you did a pretty thorough job.

agreed, stressing the importance of backups is a necessity

I guess maybe how much you like to tinker with things but that sortof goes with question #5 and ease of use

well done zapped:thumbs:

Great work so far, zapped! I'm glad something positive is coming out of the other thread!
It needs something along the lines of battery life expectations though. Some people will carry a spare battery with them to work, some people have no desire to at all! But we need to have an idea what they want, and they need to know they can't have their cake and eat it too, as in a small battery isn't going to last all day! If you want a cig-alike, you'd better get six of them!
Most of that can be said in a reply, but I think a price point and some expectation of battery needs would help narrow down some things as well.

I think it's great but like other posters have said, this stuff needs to be in laymans terms because they have no clue what the stuff means much less what they want.

When I first started I THOUGHT I wanted a cig size 1. That lasted about 3 days and I was already annoyed at the battery and those dinky tanks.

It really makes me wonder if the whole process isn't the same evolving process for everyone.

Great idea, Zapped!

I would consider splitting the questions into Basic (required answers) and Advanced (optional). All of the VV, Mod, bottom feeder, etc. questions go into the Advanced section.
Pics of example devices would be extremely useful for noobs. EDIT: Pics that show relative size are especially good. Having a PV shown in a hand is nice.
I would add "what strength cigarettes do you smoke (unfiltered full-flavor, full-flavor, light, ultra-light)?". An ultra-light smoker like I was will be happier with lower nic levels and probably lighter juice than an unfiltered Camel smoker.

You might also put in a little "primmer" for noobs that explains some common terms like juice, mAh, throat hit, etc. Tell them about it at the top but put it at the bottom so they get to the questions quickly. Don't want to overwhelm them right off. Bolding or coloring terms that are defined in the primmer would be really cool so they could see that the word they don't understand is defined at the bottom of the post.

as a noob myself this is a fantastic idea. it speaks volumes about the community that people are so willing to offer input to a suject that really doesnt affect them. i mean all you guys know this stuff like the back of your hand. so thank you for that.

one little thing that would also be useful ( hell im still looking for it myself) is that the glossary Forum Glossary - ECF InfoZone

is great to tell you what shorthand means , but where it could be expanded on would be definitions. what is a cartomizer ? what is an atomizer ect ect ? what do people mean by rewicking , or what is the use of mesh or whatever , how does a bottomfeeder work , these sort of things. now i may be getting ahead of myself granted. some newbies may just be happy with knowing what device gives them vapor. i personally want to know everything haha , the only choice to make is an informed one right ?

but like i said before i end up sounding like im making demands and complaining , thank you very much for this :)
