I press the start button and nothing happens. I can hear the timer and the light works. My son turned on some clothes to dewrinkle them since they were in the dryer overnight, it worked for a minute, and it just stopped. I think it’s a fuse or high limit thermostat so I’m going to order both once I verify I’ve got the correct ones. I’m also going to order a new hose.
It looks like the thermal high limit fuse (aka high limit thermostat) can be checked with a standard multimeter, since it doesn't reset.
Nice general writeup: How to Verify the Thermal Fuse Is Burned out on a Dryer
Apparently the fuse is normally closed (continuity between the two terminals). If your meter shows infinite resistance between the two terminals (open circuit), when at the lowest ohms range, it's blown:
A PITA to access, part 507 here: GTD42EASJ2WW fuse location
It does sound like replacing the thermostat (part 505) at the same timer is common.
Checking/replacing the duct is good. At our house I check the exterior vent once or twice a year to clear any lint buildup that keeps the little vent louvers from opening or closing properly. DW and I are also careful about keeping the lint trap clean and not leaving anything on top of the dryer (which increases internal temperature).
Of course you've committed this YT to memory by now [emoji3]
