My single internal battery mod--an innokin Kroma-AR,* my first grownup device--has been in the active rotation for almost two years now. For the last year and a half, though, it's been topped with my mint tank, so it gets less use than the others. I expect it to keep going for ages.

One question before my coil search. What do you folks think of internal battery mods? For myself, I have no problem with them at all. The only internals I ever lost were the old 20w iSticks. All my bigger sticks and other internals are still going strong.

Not a fan. Yes, my personal "skill set" means that IF I could find the right lithium pack I could replace it, but, well, it's a lot easier to swap in a fresh 18650 I went ONLY replaceable battery mods when we were ramping up to the '16 cut-off. Not just the service life of the battery, but also the convenience of being able to put in a fresh battery and go, rather than tethering the mod to a charger and waiting.

Yes, some will still function as a pass thru (but be sure your 5 VDC source can provide the necessary amps, most computer USB is 0.5 amps, max!), but again, you're tethered to, well, something.

This question is not DIY related, but it is random, so I think it's ok to post here. What is the best way to adjust the leads on a prebuilt coil. I bought a bunch of them that look like this....

But to fit into my RTAs, they have to look like this....

Is there a good way to adjust the coils so the leads go opposite directions without ruining the coil?

Put it in a coiling rod or screwdriver, and pull on one leg till it's straight, or add half a wrap till it's straight

the problem, for me, with internal batteries is the battery life, I will kill an internal battery mod in 2 - 3 hours ... I use dual 3000mah batteries and eat through them in 6 - 8 hours
the other issue is that yeah, once the battery goes, the mod is pretty much useless
internal batteries are nice as they do tend to be smaller sized but that also usually means less battery life than an external battery mod
I have 2 or 3 that just won't hold their charge anymore...one of those goes wonky and the coil resistance on it jumps all around the place so not sure if there's also a 510 connection issue or if it's due to the battery issue...

A lot of the internal batteries will still work as a pass though. Something to think about for those who vape and use a laptop.

that's good point and I have done that before but as David mentioned, you're stuck being connected to something and it doesn't really have much umph behind it to ramp up and heat the atty right, so I usually end up with a weaker, unsatisfying vape...much like you'd get when it's time to change the coil and the batteries are nearly dead....

I was just thinking about it. Nothing lasts forever--be it internal batteries, buttons, soldering, boards, 510 connections. I've never had an internal battery mod die on me--but of course they are not used daily, so it's hard to judge accurately. I just found an iStick 20 I forgot about and it's charging happily as we speak. It must be at least 5 years old--if not 6.

I used to think that mods with external batteries were a better bet, but now I'm not so sure anymore. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, if you ask me.

Me too. I like my internals. Outside of the 20w sticks, I haven't lost one yet.

Yeah, I know. Just anxious to try a mesh coil. The mail used to come early here but no more.

Put in on your coiler (or some other rod of similar diameter) and then gently unwind half a loop.

It has to be the diameter as ID of your coil. And pull forward, not sideways, if that makes sense.

No internals for me, I like to control my own destiny. I have AW IMR 18650s I bought 7 years ago that are still in use, but really need to be retired and recycled. It's kind of hard to let go of these ancient relics, but they've lived their lives. I did have an MVP2 years ago that worked great, but the 510 connection broke. I'm sure the longevity of the battery would have been good though.

I have two of those. They won't die. It's time to take them to the recycling bin. I'll never use them.

I used to used only internal battery devices as my ADV, and they would inevitably eventually faily to hold a charge. Now I'm strictly external. The only internal I own is the Automax 50 I won. I don't currently use it.
