Okay - Day was interesting so far . . . Went early for "Blood Letting", which was good since they let me take an earlier appointment because the person scheduled never showed up, so took lest then 5 mins . . . Since I hadn't eaten (had to fast) - nor took my medications, thought I would try the same with getting the "Potion". Appointment was 2 PM got there at 12:45 got right in line and was waved on . . . . . . Only to sit in a very long slow moving (inches at a time) line for approximately 3 hrs . . . Thankfully, although very dirty/smelly, "port-a-potties" located for easy access while line moved along (put car in park - do buisness . . BTW: Never take water pills when you know you're going to have to wait for hours . . . ) . . . Come back - no cars have moved even an inch . . . 2 hours later - have to go through a second screening to confirm pre-registration . . . Get to "nurses" station half hour later - they insisted that I have to refill forms, because they could not read the pre-registration form - nor what the intake people did (another half hour) . . . Finally get 1st "Portion of Potion" . . . EASY PEASY - Never even felt the needle go in . . . All done by 4:30. . . Only to be informed I will have to go through the same process for 2nd "Portion of Potion" . . . However, next time I bring insulin/food-snack/drink and an empty bottle just in case an emergency should arise . . . Just Sayin' . . .

BTW: Found it very interesting to see people getting shots with Georgia/Massachusetts/New York/Quebec license plates in-line being that it was South Florida . . .

With all the rolling power outages and/or many people with no electricity at all for days...I'll bet in the coming weeks there will be quite a few generators bought by people who've never thought of getting 1 before.
Even if I could get to HD or lowes, I would bet they are all sold out. Good luck getting gas here though, the lone stations that are open have been pilfered or mile long lines. Lots of panic buying around here.

Snowbirds?

Probably, however - I'm not sure - but recently there is now a state ID requirement . . . Anyway, not really concerned as long as everyone can get vaccinated . . . Just Sayin' . . .

I can picture that. Same thing happens down here, especially with the people who've moved here since a major hurricane has hit. Longtime Floridians know to test their generator, stock up on lots of gas for it, and other supplies...at the beginning of hurricane season. For newbie residents...it's a whole new ballgame though.

I've waited in many long lines at gas stations...after the 25 gallons or so that I usually stash when the season starts are used up. Another problem is when we lose power for days...many gas stations have no power either, to run the pumps. They may have hundreds of gallons in their underground tanks, but no way to get it out. Have driven 35 miles before, waited in line an hour or more...to find a station with working pumps and gas.

Probably so. I remember 10-12 years ago, my area had a major ice storm that lasted for a couple weeks. All the generators in the area were out of stock for quite some time because people bought them up.

Why is it always in the South that these things happen? In all my years in MN/MI I've never seen anything like this up there. Is it because of mostly Republican conservatism/libertarianism politicians and policies and (Not trying to get political) not wanting to spend on infrastructure, or have government interference (regulation)? Seems like to me, there are certain areas/fields/et cetera where federal government should definitely have a major hand in and regulate, like energy. Texas having its own seperate grid with no federal regulation sure is not paying off right now. Maybe I am way off base, but just really seems like a 3rd world country.. particularly in Corpus.

It’s crazy how cold the south is. Global warming?
Well, one could say this would be proof against climate change and another would say it is definitive proof of climate change. Climate change research says that extreme weather events like this become more and more common. A once in a century event like this becomes a once in a decade event.. which apparently happened literally a decade ago in 2011 here in Texas.

Mangos and other tropical fruits?
Just a bunch of varieties of citrus, two kinds of pears, and a brown turkey fig. We used to have an avocado tree, that’s one I would like to replace. We’ll need a new meyer lemon tree too. It definitely didn’t make it through the freeze.

I can’t blame people for panic buying. I hope the head of the electric company gets fired. From what I read, he had the power cut to the island in the name of trying to keep other areas from losing power. Unconscionable

My MIL has one. She lives close. It’s hard to use up dozens of limes, so we share.
Don’t encourage Himself lol. We have more varieties than we can use up as it is. We had a big oak cut down last spring and he’s been gleefully plotting what to put there

I used to live in a town not far from where you are, and I can tell you the electrical grid is worse there than the rest of the state. We would lose power for no reason at all. My daughter and I called it "squirrels in the grid". After one thunderstorm, we were without power for 4 days and after Harvey it was 3 days. Since I moved, I've only lost power once, for about an hour.

It is. I have been freezing here in Georgia for about 2 weeks now and have bought a heated tent for a poor homeless cat that I have been feeding. I worry myself to death about him
