So you let your mother (I'll leave out the senile part) clean out that freezer
"(outside on the patio... in the heat)" after you noticed it.
I live with her (her house, her freezer) My nephew (that also lives with us) caused all this... he got off scott free (was gone all day) She is lucky I noticed it or it would still be wide open. Please explain how any of this is my fault???

Not your fault but you should have been the one out in the heat, not your Mom.

    Fault ?
    She's your Mother.
The "fault" that is yours is not doing it for her when you found it or at least helping her.
And if you can't see that...

You don't understand my mother... she is out in the heat every day (even when I offer to do things for her... she has to be active... neurotic) If I fixed everything my mother and nephew screw up, it would be a full time job! She will work herself to death (seriously) and I can't stop her from doing that. I do lot's of work for her... today was my "day off". Maybe now you see why I never have time to mix and build RTAs/RDAs. Do you want to know how many times she thought she turned the gas stove off and it was actually on low? We left the house for hours... flame blew out, kitchen full of gas (I could go on, but hope you get the idea) I love her but she is stubborn and refuses to "act her age" and relax.

Perhaps it's time to get your own freezer? ;)

Or at least label your nicotine clearly and visibly "POISON" or "NOT FOOD" and "DO NO THROW AWAY" if it's stored in somebody else's freezer--as a courtesy to the nice people who let you use their freezer. So you don't put others' lives and health in danger.

Sounds to me like nobody there can take care of her.

I also try to go with her when she drives... blew right through red lights twice (at major intersections!) Dementia is slowly catching up with her. My nephew is never here... runs away whenever possible.

    Amen to that.
If it's known she can leave the gas on...how much effort does it take to have a look to make sure it got turned off before everyone leaves.
There's just stuff we do for our parents, we take care of them. We fix things for them.
Look at all they did for us.
    And you are living there.
