It's with a very heavy heart and tears down my cheeks, that I have to post the following...since I'd promised Uncle I would do it when the time came.

His sister called me early last night from Colorado, to let me know that he'd unexpectedly passed away last Thursday, in his apartment in Ft. Lauderdale. Another sister had been with him, so he wasn't alone. His cause of death hasn't been determined yet, but she said it could've possibly been a too high potassium level, or maybe a blood clot from the broken bone and surgery, or something else entirely.

He'd called me last Tuesday night...out of rehab then and back at his apartment. He and his sister had been trying to arrange home health care for him, because doing pretty much anything by himself, was challenging for him. His goal was to hopefully even just get back to how things were before he'd broken his tibia. When he sensed my heightened concern and worry about his situation, he said in his typical sarcastic way..."OH, don't worry...I'm not going anywhere anytime soon" and then laughed. I'd told him I'd still call regularly to check on him, and he said, "Nooo, I'll call you, 'cause I can't always get to the phone or I may be sleeping at irregular times." So, I reluctantly honored his request.

A package was delivered from him Friday, that he'd said he likely wouldn't get mailed until Friday. That was unusual for him, and I wanted to call, but since he'd said not to, I didn't. I'd learned over the years that Uncle meant what he said, and showing what he thought was more concern for him than he deserved...would cause his typical, funny sarcasm to just run amok. :p

I know for certain that ECF and the many friends he made here were an important, loved, and truly enjoyable part of his life. It was funny to me when he'd get miffed and say, "There's only 1 Uncle on ECF", when others who had Uncle as part of their user names were at times mistakenly referred to as just "Uncle". :D

I'm so glad I got to meet and visit with him in person twice and that we became very good friends for the last 3-4 years. He gave it all he had...when dealing with every new health problem that reared its ugly head. I'll definitely miss him and even his frequently posted "Happy Birthday" dirty old man with the candle posts. ;)

For the final time....Just Sayin'...........
I am devastated to hear this. I really do not watch this thread but someone else told me about this. I LOVED Uncle. Such a wonderful fair and kind man. Thank you JC for sharing this.

Good Morning :)

The morning chores are done. It's getting warmer in the north woods, up to 43° today. We had a good storm roll through overnight. Awesome and very loud thunder. The lightning show was totally spectacular. It poured for some time. I love storms like that.

Need to rewick some rba's today. Then . . . IDK yet.

Carp. Yes, his wit and humor will be missed.

But thanks for the update, JC.

Morning, mixers.

Decided to make a beeline home, got in about 8:15 last night after a 14 hour jaunt. (12 hours the first day, so what's another 2? ;)

Mostly clear weather, just a bit of snow flurries at the crest of the Siskiyou's, light and scattered rain in southern Oregon, but mostly clear and dry.

Good visit, and good to be home.

We have upper 60’s showing but it’s 10 days away so that can change many times.

We have 60's showing for next week as well.
The weather seems to be a guessing game. A few days ago the weather said rain for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No rain yesterday and workers worked on the roof. Now there’s no more chance of rain today. That leaves tomorrow with rain,,,,,,,,so they say.

    Somewhere between here and there
Good morning. I didn't even get my lunchbox set down when I got in this morning. My boss grabbed me because the office laserjet printer wasn't working. Someone jammed the toner cartridge in crooked and I couldn't get it out. Luckily we keep a spare printer so I got that one set up and installed on each computer.

I dropped my jeep off to have it looked at this morning. When I press on the brake pedal before starting, it makes a high pitched noise. I'm guessing I've got a master cylinder going out or something. It hasn't leaked and the fluid level was good. Also I've got a tire with a slow leak. I had that same tire fixed a while back but lost about five pounds of air in a week and a half. The last time I got tires the boss had them put Hankook tires on instead of Michelin like we usually get and I hate them. I can't wait until I'm due for new tires. They just don't get traction like the Michelin tires do.

I knew he had been through a lot health-wise, but I didn't see this coming.
R.I.P. Uncle, we will miss you.

Thanks Jan. Appreciate you and Uncle arranging this. It's hard when someone with health problems just disappears and you never know what happened. A lot of us don't have real life friendships outside of the forum.
