I absolutely hate plumbing. I used the shark bite connectors when I replaced my water heater. I bought the new water valves for the washer and unscrewed the valve from the threaded pipe it comes with so I could just unscrew the old ones and screw the new ones in with some thread sealer. It went so well that I’m waiting for something bad to happen.Home plumbing repairs are the pits. I do like those shark bite fittings though, no more stuffing bread in the pipe. lol
Hopefully that something bad doesn't happenI absolutely hate plumbing. I used the shark bite connectors when I replaced my water heater. Thank you, Kat, that had slipped my mind already!
I used to hate cutoff valves when I did that stuff for a living. Always in places that are hard to get to, with just a short piece of pipe sticking out of the wall. I had a major hot water leak in the bathroom this summer. Luckily I spotted it right as it happened so there wasn't a flood, but the cutoff on top of the water heater was jammed tight. Had to use a wrench to close it and burned the back of my finger on the exhaust. I wonder if opening and closing them regularly would help. The fun didn’t end there. A ten minute project of unhooking the washer and dryer turned into a nightmare. I got the hot water hose off with no problem but the cold water hose had pressure on it no matter which way I turned the shut off valve. I finally came to the conclusion that I was going to have to change the valve after it sprayed me and my wife in the face. So a trip to Home Depot for new valves, shut off the main water to the house and changed the valves. Two hours and I was done after an already busy day.
They tried to sell me on the smart thermo. Sent it in the mail unsolicited. Discovered after hours of searching the internet that I would have to do some low voltage rewiring inside the furnace. My plumber said that would break the warranty, $150 if the plumber did it. The thermo folks said don't worry the warranty will be fine. I told them to come and pick it up. Anyway, I read that the smarty sends info back to the company and it allows them to change your settings when there's a power shortage. And they can be hacked. My house was freezing this A.M., the fancy thermostat died. I had to put a jumper on the furnace while searching for the old round honeywell with the mercury switch that never fails. My electric co. wants to send me a free smart thermostat, No thanks.lol
The cold water valve felt like it was opening and closing normally but I watched the inside when I got the hose off and there was no ball inside. When I started to loosen the hose on the valve it sprayed me and my wife in the face.I used to hate cutoff valves when I did that stuff for a living.
