I was thinking a small soft bristle push broom would be great for clearing off the vehicles without scratching. I think I'll look for one when the salt and snow are off the road. :)
    Sounds like a good idea.

    Morning, mixers.

I guess the predicted heat wave is here, only 19 last night, and maybe over freezing for a high. Although 35 isn't much over...

And they're still going on about a new storm coming in later today and overnight. That one is said to start with snow, change to freezing rain and then just rain.

Good morning, David. :) The new storm sounds messy. Hopefully it doesn't happen.

The odds were for Dallas to win and we all saw how that turned out. I hope GB does to SF what they did to Dallas. Alas, though, my hopes for an all Texas SB are crushed. Maybe one year...

I'm not exactly sure how many NFL teams from the same state played each other in a SB. The New York Giants and Buffalo Bills did in SB XXV ('91). And the San Diego Chargers and SF 49ers did in SB XXIX ('95).

Until 2020 no team played, or won, a SB in their home stadium. Tampa was the first in SB LV. Rams were the second in SB LV!.

And Dallas, if the Jones family would run the Cowboys like all the other teams, they might have won more SB's (since '95) and they more than likely would have won several more playoff games. What do I mean? The Jones family does not have the football experience of seasoned team presidents or GM's. J. Jones is the self appointed GM - and that's the problem. The Jones family meddles in all team affairs.

The other 30*** team owners (of 32) generally hire knowledgeable team presidents, GM's and scouts. Their billionaire owners, for the most part, stay out of team operations. As owners, they know the "golden rule in business", hire the best you can find, lead with a vision, then back off and let them do their jobs.

*** There is only one team in the NFL who doesn't have a billionaire owner. The Green Bay Packers. GB is a community owned team, they will never up and move. For the team to be sold would require a shareholder vote. Wisconsin residents hold the vast majority of shares. As a shareholder, I would have a vote.

Since 1923 the Packers are only NFL team that is a publicly owned corporation, the only major professional sports franchise in the United States that is a nonprofit entity. The Packers are owned by 537,460 stockholders, community shareholders – none of whom can own more than about 4% of the team's stock. Unlike shareholders of other corporations, Packers owners can't sell or cash in their shares.

In 1997 I bought 1 share for $200, making me, in part, a team owner.

As a shareholder, I have voting rights to elect the board of directors, can (and do) attend the corporation's annual meeting and I can transfer my share to someone else. But that's it. GB shareholders don't receive stock dividends. Buying a share of the Green Bay Packers is currently not possible. There have only been six stock issues over the history of the Packers organization (1923, 1935, 1950, 1997-98, 2011 and 2021-22). LOL, President Barack Obama, a lifelong Bears fan, owns 1 share.

The Packers are governed by a seven member executive committee. The team is run by an elected president, currently Mark Murphy (ex-NFL safety). He represents GB at the NFL owners meetings and other functions.

I would love to see the Packers go all the way this year. Can it happen, sure. For now, I'm only looking at the SF game. If GB wins vs SF, cool. If they don't, well, then this years youngest NFL team will have gained valuable playoff experience. I mean, it's really hard for any team to go all the way.

they closed the schools here today due to the frigid sub-zero temps

lucky kids these days, they never closed schools for snow or sub-zero temps when i was a kid

everyone walked to school in the 60s, uphill both ways ( ), didn't matter how much snow or how cold

we wore non-insulated black rubber metal-clasped buckle boots, or galoshes as some called them..........

We wore black rubber boots but they didn't have clasps. They were called Wellington Boots, known as wellies. Except for the upper class. They wore green ones, identical except for the color. They kept them exclusive by charging 10 times the price of the black ones. If you saw kids with green wellies you threw snowballs at them.

One of my grandpa's always told us he walked miles to school, and yes, barefoot / up hill both ways and that his school was unheated. My grandma would just smile and roll her eyes. They were born in the late 1800's, he went to a single room school out in, what was then, the boonies. I'm thinking rural schools must have had wood burning stoves back in those days (???).

I can't even begin to imagine how difficult life was like for my parents, and so many others, during the Great Depression. I mean, they (and my grand and great grand parents, aunts and uncles) told me their stories. We've had a much easier life compared to them, and for that, I am truly thankful.

I so miss all the old folks, their many stories, life experiences, teachings and wisdom. As a youngster I used to sit and listen, and ask for more, they would deliver too. I continued asking more and more right up until, well, the Elders were no longer. My older and younger brothers always come to me for all family history, because they didn't care to listen to the Elders.

Honestly, I really don't care who wins/loses. SF wins, awesome. I'm not invested in sports like some folks are. Although, I will and do talk trash, like I did the other day, but that's for the fun of it. <<< maybe I'm not supposed to do that nowadays, hmmm >>>

Some fans get really upset when their team loses, that seems like a total waste of life energy to me. Sadly domestic violence increases after sporting events. And I can't understand that, because like, it's just a silly game. A minor distraction from "real life" if you will.

Yes, wood burning stoves. Funny but my aunt still had a wood stove for heat and I imagine her house is still heated that way. Since she passed a few years ago, her youngest daughter lives there although she has a cabin up the mountain. The cabin only has wood stove heat and my cuz goes up every morning and lights a fire, replenishes it in the evening even though she doesn't live there. She says it is because she was robbed years ago and with a fire, they think someone is home so it is safer.

I loved the stories from elders when I was young. Some of my favs were NA ones, even though it was sad about the Trail of Tears. I was born on Track Rock Gap which is a Preserve of NA history and was always told I was Cherokee from my mothers side. My DNA test shows no NA history but it also doesn't show anything past my maternal grandfather on that side.

It saddens me that the new generation doesn't seem to have any interest in family history. At least mine doesn't. I was taking pics of my dd, gd's in my Easter dress from 1955. With my youngest gd, no one has any interest in continuing that tradition. The dress is still in perfect shape since it was made of Rayon as most in the post WWII days. Just for giggles here is me in that dress at age 4

And one of my gd's in the same dress at age 5

I'll have to agree with you. I'd like a win but not going to get upset if I don't get one. I can't understand the violence that increases after a sporting event either. It's too bad that happens.
