Yes, wood burning stoves. Funny but my aunt still had a wood stove for heat and I imagine her house is still heated that way. Since she passed a few years ago, her youngest daughter lives there although she has a cabin up the mountain. The cabin only has wood stove heat and my cuz goes up every morning and lights a fire, replenishes it in the evening even though she doesn't live there. She says it is because she was robbed years ago and with a fire, they think someone is home so it is safer.

I loved the stories from elders when I was young. Some of my favs were NA ones, even though it was sad about the Trail of Tears. I was born on Track Rock Gap which is a Preserve of NA history and was always told I was Cherokee from my mothers side. My dna test shows no NA history but it also doesn't show anything past my maternal grandfather on that side.

It saddens me that the new generation doesn't seem to have any interest in family history. At least mine doesn't. I was taking pics of my dd, gd's in my Easter dress from 1955. With my youngest gd, no one has any interest in continuing that tradition. The dress is still in perfect shape since it was made of Rayon as most in the post WWII days. Just for giggles here is me in that dress at age 4

Thanks for sharing Rose. Awww, you look so cute in that dress, as does your GD. I love old photos and stories.

My Grandma, on my Dad's side grew up in very rural Wisconsin in the late 1800's. Nothing but the woods surrounded their home. I remember her telling me their only neighbors were Native Americans. Her mom used to bake pies and set them on an open window sill to cool. Some of the Native Americans would come up to the house and ask about the pies. My Grandma's mom (my Great Grandmother) always gave them some of her pies. They loved them, they never had anything like them. She used to tell me stories about how the NA's would take her Father out to hunt, teaching him their hunting ways and bunches of other cool things.

Here is my Mom and Grandma from 1937.

And here is a picture of me and my longtime girlfriend, who I suppose I can call my other wife, even though we're not married. This was from a school dance after our 8th grade graduation. She initially refused to smile for the picture because she had just gotten her braces. My Dad cracked a joke and that got a sort-of smile out of her. Her Mom made the outfit she's wearing. We gave each other the rings on our fingers, we had plans to eventually get hitched.

She was my first girlfriend. My wife, her and myself were lifelong best friends. We were inseparable until my wife died in 2018. The three of us grew up on the same city block. We did everything together for the majority of our lives (yes, everything one can possibly imagine, together).

And well, I suppose, no sense beating around the bush any longer. DD2 is my actual daughter. My wife wasn't able to have kids. Her and our girlfriend, knew I wanted a child. They came up with the idea for our girlfriend and I to, well you know, and we did. My wife was 100% fine with it, always was, DD2 had two Mom's until 2018.

And well, that's my bombshell for the day.

Me on my Palomino, Honey Bee, at my parents place outside the city. Think that pic is from 1968. We had six horses.

I remember occasionally sleeping with her in her stall in the barn. My Mom protested, my Dad said let the boy sleep with her.

Wow, @ShowMeTwice that is a cool story and love the pics. You don't hear about friends like that much anymore. Your wife sounds like she was a very special lady. Most wouldn't have agreed with that idea. Looks like a win win situation. She/you got to have a child, kiddo got 2 moms and everyone remained close to raise your dd.

My maternal grandfather didn't like being photographed. There are only 2 pics of him that I saw. The first was him on his seventeenth birthday in uniform, after he volunteered to fight in WW1. He got shot in the arm then gassed on the way back to the field hospital. The second was taken a few years later of him playing cricket. He lost some use of his right arm. He had been a batsman, he had to become a bowler and learn to bowl left handed. They made them tough back then.

Good evening. We got up to 14 today with some sun which was nice. Even warmer tomorrow. However, back to single digits Friday.
Good evening, hitt. :) 21 right now dropping to 13 for overnight. Glad you’ll be warmer for awhile.
