Tonight is our monthly town board meeting. Not my favorite activity.
On one side of the town there's a uber expensive private university. They are nightmare neighbors. All this summer early every evening we've had a flood of cars coming
through town to a back entrance to the university to drop off kids, and back to pick them up later. They ignore the 25 speed limit, blast
through the 4-ways, and queue up nose to tail blocking residents from getting in or out of their driveways for hours. The university refuses to send their cops over to help.
Last week we found out what's going on. It's a tax scam. They wanted to make money by running training classes for rich kids, but the tax and liability
insurance made it impractical and their Charter didn't allow it. So they had all their sports instructors set up LLC's and rent their own training facilities from the Uni. It also means they can send the traffic through our town instead of disrupting their own roads with the drop off queues. They have their own Uni buses picking up the kids from the drop off point and taking them to the training locations.
These creeps have major money and major contacts in City government. Tonight we will be having a strategy session. Some of the people affected are talking about holding street parties to block the roads. Our own cop will be doing speed traps and ticketing people for misbehavior on the 4-ways and blocking roads. And we have a local TV station about to do a segment exposing them. Some of the people directly affected are talking about direct physical confrontations to force the Uni to step in with their own cops. Or street demonstrations, everyone else gets to demonstrate on the roads.
Bottom line though, big money always wins.
