@DavidOck your comic today reminded me of when I went trick-or-treating in the 60's. When we all used to go trick-or-treating at night (and on Halloween).
Our next door neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Polzien, always gave us treats from one of their apple trees. Their apples were the best!!! Mrs. Polzien always made the best apple pies and also made an awesome apple strudel (and apple streusel treats).
They were one of the nicest and cutest old couples ever!!! They were in their upper 70s in the mid 1960s. I used to shovel their snow, rake their leaves and cut their grass. And I always used their lawn mower.
I'm sure most of us posting here used one like it back in the day.
I always loved sitting and listening to Mr. and Mrs. Polzien's many ( many ) stories. One year, after coming home from a trip to Florida, they came back with a wonderful gift for me. A super awesome conch shell. I put a 75w Pico next to it for size comparison.
I will never forget, Mr. Polzien told me, "hold it up to your ear and you will always hear the sound of the ocean". I was like 7-8 years old then, so yes, I totally heard the ocean!!!
( and well, yes, my still larger than life imagination still does

)
