Well if you are interested in computers and want to program, just be prepared to learn lots of new languages as the industry is always moving forward quickly. Most are basically the same and only the syntax changes and gets more complex. Altho it may have slowed down a bit in the last few years since I retired. Or you may be interested in the hardware side. Sitting up lan closets and wiring offices can be very lucrative. Loads to think about.

    :)

It is a lot to think about. I just don’t know which direction I’d like to go. I’d probably find the set up stuff easier to learn but don’t know. I don’t know any program languages but am pretty good with computers and hardware. I got my first computer when windows first came out and have learned through the school of hard knocks and a little help from my BiL along the way. Everyone at work comes to me when they are having problems and I can usually get them going.

Sounds like at least a good start.

I think you would do excellent in hardware. There would be some input into the machines to keep them running smoothly. Stuff like the server software but those would be an install of an already written program. Just a few tricks and tips taking classes could show you. Coding can be very intricate. Sometimes something as simple as a comma instead of a period can drive you nuts. Especially when looking thru hundreds of lines of code.

Good morning. Woke up again in the middle of another struggle dream. Can’t remember what it was about this time.
Three weeks now without smoking... don't have any urge at all but keep having dreams where I'm around someone smoking and break down and beg them for one.

I did assist the engineer that installed our small network at my work. I learned just enough to be dangerous.

I've heard/read that COBOL, even after all this time, is in demand.. especially now. Lots of systems still using this language I guess.

I spent 30 years writing software, dropped out in 2001. Since then I did few short Cobol contracts. All the smart ambitious people got off Cobol decades ago but there are huge amounts of legacy Cobol still running as far as I know. It rarely has to be worked on. The places I filled in at were staffed by lazy old timers who mostly sat around avoiding work. There's even older systems still out there running assembler or machine code.

At my wife's last job in a small company they were still using a system from the 80's. When it went wrong there was only one guy in California who knew how to fix it and he wasn't cheap.

This is me trying to be scientific about mixing. 6 identical setups loaded with 6 versions of my new caramel recipe. Different coloured vape bands to keep track of them.

Yeah we got away from it when we switched from reel2 reel(mainframe) to relational databases. And then had to figure out how to shake hands with the internet. This was when html and JavaScript were coming out. Good times.looking back I would not have traded my job for anything.

I used to install and maintain large scale mainframe systems. Some installs were weeks long, some longer. Lots of travel, lots. I was on-call 24/7/365, including vacations and holidays. And man, they called at all hours. I had to be ready to hop on a plane at the drop of a dime. Always carried a go bag and a fairly large kit.

Later on I moved into large scale networking. Then systems security. Eventually training. And then management. The hardware side involved long hours and a lot of travel all over the place. When I was young the travel was fun. I got to go and see places most never get to. As I got older it was more of a PIA and I grew tired of being on-call all the time. It was a great experience though.

That might do it, not sure. Don't have all those mysterious ones. LOL.
    Thanks for posting.

Wouldn't be great if we all lived within a drive of each other?
Those of you who have 400 flavors, and those of us who have 40.
We'd get together at a bar or coffee shop or one of our homes, carrying all our flavors in, and mixing like wackos with all the flavors others have and which we don't.
Oh well, this ain't gonna happen.

    Kinda but not.. lol
There actually is a Spam museum, which I've been to. It's fairly interesting and worth a visit, if you're in the area. It's pretty interesting at how pivotal and important Spam was(still is? Idk) to the U.S., especially in WWII. I'm not sure traveling from NY to Austin, MN just for the Spam museum is worth it, unless you're in MN for other reasons. And there are plenty of reasons to visit "fly-over" states like MN.
yeah, that's a long way. I may just dream about it. But, I remember all the WWII spam stuff.
Plus, having been to Hawaii a couple of times, they've incorporated spam into a lot of local cuisine.

I had a bird nest in my dryer vent outside. I noticed my towels weren’t drying and I found the nest. I haven’t done laundry in a week. I had another one a few years ago and my Dad pulled it out and broke two eggs. The bird parents grieved for days and I cried too. So I was determined to not harm eggs or babies but luckily there were none. I love animals and all birds. I do need to replace the entire vent assembly though but not today.

I got out what I could by hand. Then I took off one end of the inside hose from my dryer and we blew it out with my yard blower. All done!

Here are the remnants of the nest.

I had the same problem with a vent which had the louvers which opened when the fan was on, and which should have shut when the fan was off. Unfortunately there were bits of stuff clogging the louvers, so they didn't close completely, so the birds got in.
Not sure if that's your issue. But, if it is, the simple solution is a cage like thing which fits over the vent opening. It doesn't interfere with the louvers, which will keep out the bugs, and keeps animals out.
I'll send you a pic if my words are unclear.
