What are you folks up to? I’ve just been trying to write a recipe out of ideas but it’s not my day I guess.

Obviously goofing off if I'm posting here instead of working. I kind of ran out of steam so figured I'd take a short break.

Breaks are good if you can do that. I gotta go cook today.

I just pretend like I'm looking up a manual or something. I'm in the shop by myself most of the day so no one really has any idea what I'm doing. Also, no one here really understands the work I do or anything in general about computers.

I repair different kinds of welding and cutting equipment for a welding supply company and am also a certified welding inspector as well as a master electrician and have a degree in industrial electrical technology. I know enough about computers but never had any official training. I learned through the school of hard knocks on computers which gives me enough knowledge to help with most of the issues we have at work. If not then I can ask around on the forum since there are several people that know way more than me. However, our inventory computer software is way out of date so there probably aren't a lot of people that are familiar with it and it is kind of special to our industry I think.

How long did it take you to get the degrees and stuff?

Yeah my computer has the edit and post buttons. Not worth my effort to find out why my phone doesn't have them.

Do you use Tapatalk on the phone? I'd guess that it's a totally different experience...

If not, it's sometimes the case that outfits will have a scaled down site for phone users, so that may apply. Or not.

Great to hear. I was in the welding industry for about 10 yrs...early 2000.
We had a small welding retail company... machines, consumables and general tools. We also had a in house guy that repaired machines. Also worked for Lincoln SA for a while.
    Different breed them welders :D

It was a while. After I got out of the army I worked full time and went to college at night. After I got my associates degree I took the master electrician exam. Then it was probably a few years after that when I took the welding inspector exam. Besides that I’m required to do training for the main manufacturer we deal with to maintain my certification with them.

Our main line of welders we sell are Miller Electric. We are what they call a true blue distributor which means we sell over 90+ percent Miller when it comes to machines and I’m a certified service tech with them. When I started about 25 years ago the equipment was much simpler. Now everything has half a dozen circuit boards and is computerized. I have to keep a palm pilot, laptop, and special test equipment besides the normal meters and oscilloscope to work on this stuff. Some have USB ports or card readers to load software and some you have to connect a laptop to pull error logs. It’s changed a lot over the years.
