I know you spent much time in the Rayon Pt1 and Pt2 threads and then much more time trying to get your rayon wicking down.

When I pull a rayon wick through a coil it's firm. And I do mean FIRM, but not overly firm.

As you read in those threads, firm = hearing a "squeaking" sound OR feeling that as a "vibration" on your fingers. Rayon requires 30% more versus cotton. [contraction vs. expansion]

I don't use 28g wire anymore, it's too flimsy (for me). With 28g wire you need to hold the coil in-place with a fingernail when pulling rayon through or it can (will) move the coil. I do use 27g SS316L in some builds.

Just curious, have you tried running flavorless in one of your rta's with a rayon wick?
If so, did you get the same black rayon?

Here is a photo of my Creek rda with a Tidi rayon wick. I run it on a squonker with flavorless. The wick has been used for just over a month. Daily use.

View attachment 995055

I pulled the wick through the coil so you can see the part of the wick that was in the coil. No part of the wick shows any burning. And there is no crud on the coil (as expected w/flavorless).

FWIW, I run that setup between 24w - 32w. The coil is a SS316L 26/36 Clapton with a 3.5ID.

I will shoot some step-by-step photos next time I rewick my KFL19 and send those off to you.
Probably be in the next 1-2 days.

:)
Great minds think alike ;)

I forgot to add before: I've easily gone through well over 1L of unflavored off a single rayon wick in the Kayfun Prime. I don't bother to measure because the wicks last so darn long. I've had a single coil last over 2 years.

The Kayfun Prime is one of my favorites. Doesn't matter what kind of juice I use, the coil type or if I use rayon or cotton wicking. The Prime just totally delivers (in spades, and then some ).
Ummm, LOLz, did I mention the Prime is one of my favorites?

I get long life out of all my coils. The coil in that Creek RDA was installed on 8 July 2022 (yep, I keep records). So, nearly 10 months old and it's still going strong. In my experience, if coils are well and properly maintained they will last a good long time.

The guy who owns WireOptim (the old Lightning Vapes) says, and has demonstrated that, coils should last a long time. He makes/sells several coils and also makes/sells clapton and other more exotic wire types on spools. He's posted a few videos showing how to get long life out of coils.

Too much wick if it's burning through the middle. If over-stuffed, juice just can't get there.
Yup, this has always been my suspicion. In this as in many areas of life, I tend to overdo things. I'm working on overcoming the compulsion, at least when it comes to wicking, but my nature puts up such a fight, it's a struggle.

@OnTheFidele and @ShowMeTwice, your advice to vape unflavored as I work on wicking is noted, but here we run into another of my essential traits: lack of interest in doing things I don't enjoy, and I don't enjoy vaping unflavored juice. I'll just have to keep fiddling with the wicking each time I have to replace the wick in one of my setups (five at the moment) and look forward to the happy day when I finally get it right consistently.

Well excuse us Fussy One!!! just teasin' ya Zaz
<<< fwiw, i refuse to eat red meat, pork etc. etc., i do eat fish occasionally >>>

All it will take for a quick test is one of your KFL19's (with the default 2ml tank) with some of your base (unflavored). Or add a couple drops of a fruit you like!?

I mean, it's just for a quick wick test. All in the name of Rayon Science!!! (((  )))
Yes/no/maybe???

Just a thought!!! Or NVM. Or IDK. :w00t:

just trying to help ya.................

I agree. Not big on doing what I don’t enjoy.

I know I mentioned SIL getting my baseboard heater out the other day but I know I didn’t give the whole story. SIL does not know how to remove the metal pipes and plug them so the heat is off for the whole house now. Good thing we’re in a warm spell.

Yes/no/maybe. But, if I'm honest, probably not. You have no conception of the level of inertia/exhaustion I'm up against,

Besides, it's not "a quick wick test." I would need to vape unflavored long enough to see if the wick scorched, and that would take at least a week . . . A WHOLE WEEK!!!!!

I'm sorry Zaz, was hoping you would know sooner than a week.

I would never want you to vape flavorless for seven days and nights. Skip it!!!

Heading back to plan #1, rewick KFL19 with Tidi rayon, shoot step-by-step photos, add any helpful notes, share with Zaz. Proceed from there.

    Amazon……..Designated Survivor

    Ahhhhhhh............ okay, thank you. ;)

    With Kiefer Sutherland right?

We watched D.S. when it was on regular TV. And we were bummed when ABC cancelled it.

Is Prime just streaming what was on ABC or did Amazon add new seasons?

    Google tells me . . .

Designated Survivor aired for three seasons, first on ABC and then exclusively on Netflix for the third and final season.

So, there were two seasons on ABC (we saw those) and then a third on Netflix. And Prime is now streaming those.

I never saw the exclusive season three.
