So nice you got to see a Monarch. I got lucky enough to see one last year. They are beautiful for sure.

I snapped this photo of a Red Admiral butterfly last week while out on a walk. They are also very pretty butterflies. I love their cute antennae. They're about 1/2 the size of a Monarch. Adults have about a two-inch wingspan versus a monarchs four-inch span.

Red Admiral's are pretty mellow. I was able to get super close for the pic. It just sat there like, "okay cool, take my photo Mate".

Good afternoon EveryOne

Went for a nice long walk in the woods today. Something rare and very special happened. We were taking a break, I was sitting on a fallen tree, Carli dog was laying down and then a gorgeous Monarch butterfly landed on her back. Carli didn't even notice or feel it. I sure was freakin' STOKED though. It just sat on her back with it's wings open.

I knew if I moved quickly for my smartphone, to get photos, I'd likely freak it out. So I just sat there and admired its beauty. Then I very slowly grabbed my smartphone and Carli decided to move. The monarch flew away. I gave Carli the hand signal to lay and stay. Watched the monarch land on the grass about 6-8 feet away and very slowly moved in to snap a pic and naturally it flew away before I could take a photo.

Oh well, it was totally awesome seeing a Monarch. It's very rare to see one these days. Sadly they are critically endangered. Since the 1980s about one billion monarch butterflies have been lost, or 97% of their population. All thanks to stupid pesticide use, loss of grasslands and human caused global warming. :glare:
So many things were around when we were kids that won't be around for our grandchildren. What will they think of our generation?

I wonder if vaping will be on the list of stuff they only see in history books.

I just read an article about how vaping causes oral cancer. At end of a long discussion of awful that is there was a single throwaway sentence saying, of course we shouldn't forget that the rate of oral cancer from vaping is much lower than the rate from smoking.

Very true. The cause of the problem dates back to the Industrial Revolution. The effect is that human activities such as burning fossil fuels, including coal and oil, have increased greenhouse gas concentrations in our atmosphere. The result, human caused global warming.

Human caused global warming was initially brought to the fore in the 70s and 80s. Back then no one in positions of power cared. Most, the uninformed, denied it altogether. Climate scientists alerted the world. The world collectively stuck their heads in the sand (sadly a vocal minority still do).

Canary in the coal mine? At this time we are talking every single species on the planet. We are witnessing the demise of Earth's biodiversity on a scale that's never been seen in the history of the planet. Ever.

We are currently past the tipping point. That does not bode well for the future of life on Earth.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I haven't seen anyone on ECF saying they have oral cancer??? And who is to say, with 100% certainty, that the cause of a persons oral cancer was vaping versus the tobacco products they smoked prior to switching to vaping??? Makes me wonder.

We don't yet know the long-term effects of vaping.

I don’t know what’s considered long term but I’ve been at it for 14 years and have not noticed any issues.
