Speaking of flowers, my favorite are daisies. I've always called them the "happy flower". Can't help but smiling when I see them.

Daisies represent purity, innocence, new beginnings, joy and cheerfulness.

In the summer I will sit in silence just admiring them. Although, I've been known to do the same with other flowers, plants and trees.

Full disclosure, we do talk to our plants and flowers. My wife used to talk and sing to her many flowers in our garden. She always said "the plants and flowers love my singing".

“[...] some research shows that speaking nicely to plants will support their growth, whereas yelling at them won't. Rather than the meaning of words, however, this may have more to do with vibrations and volume. Plants react favourably to low levels of vibrations, around 115-250hz being ideal.”

The typical female speaking voice runs 165 to 255 Hz, male voice 85 to 155 Hz. Singing a female voice frequency range covers 350 Hz to 17KHz, a male 100Hz to 8KHz.

The article I linked discusses speaking to plants and also mentions a woman and her orchids. I always loved seeing Bea-FL's many orchid photos in Willie's Bohemians & the Forgotten thread. She totally has the "touch" for growing them. I miss her posts.

IIRC, @WhiteHighlights last gave an update on Bea in September (???). Have you heard from Gary since?

One of the earliest studies of the effect of music on plants was conducted in 1962 by Dr. T. C. Singh, Head of Botany at Annamalia University. He exposed balsam plants to classical music and found that their growth rate increased by 20% compared to a control group, along with a 72% increase in biomass. He then exposed crops to raga music over loudspeakers and found they yielded 25% – 60% more than the national average.

So, Mozart is better than Ravi Shankar? :)

    Good afternoon mixers,

went to the doctor yesterday, the blood tests were perfect, red warning light for cholesteol ie, at the low end, I'd rather have sore muscles than clogged veins though, won't change meds before the summer holidays at the earliest. Fortunately, my doctor has realized that two blood tests a year are smart in my case, since I am clearly predisposed to high cholesterol levels and fluctuating absorption of vitamins. I also had my first quarter on the spin bike yesterday, I'm also taking it easy there for the first month, often but not ending up in the basement.

The mixes I'm going to taste are also ready, have to decide which attys.
