Thanks, all is well here. Hope you and fam are well too!

By "dams", do you mean the juice wells where you tuck the wick tails into?

The length, and thickness, of the wick tails play a role with whatever juice viscosity is being used.

Thicker juices (80VG/20PG, 70VG/30PG) and higher wattages generally require tails that don't touch the bottoms of the juice wells and they need to be thinned out more. I've seen some builds with tails that were very short and seriously thinned out, but they work!

60VG/40PG, 50VG/50PG or 40VG/60PG being thinner. generally, require thicker tails and tails that "just" touch the bottoms of the juice wells.

Too much wick placed in the juice wells will cause problems with more juice being absorbed into the tails. In general, the tails should never be longer than the depth of the wells.

One more thought, have you tried single wire coil builds in Cloudy? Claptons and other exotic coils suck-up more juice (that pools on the coil). A single wire build won't suck-up as much juice, nearly no pooling, versus Clapton's (or other exotic coils) and just "might" make Cloudy less likely to leak (might???). IDK, just thinking out loud!

I use single wire coil builds in most of my RTAs and RDAs. There are a few that I use Clapton's in. Sometimes I use Aliens (and others, just depends!).

Good luck and I hope you are able to get Cloudy squared away!
Good to hear all is well, we are doing alright, thank you :)

Dam might not be the right term - the back of the juice wells project up above the deck like a little wall that seperates the deck airflow from the wells,

20250712_183102~2.jpg20250712_183336~2.jpg

I have tried single wire builds and still experienced either dry hits or leaking at various times.
Sometimes things would work fine for a few tanks and then get some seeping.
I use 70vg mostly.
Have had tails stuffed, filled but loose, up slightly off the bottom, just into the wells.
I haven't found any of those to work 100% though.
I just might be horrible at wicking though I have had fewer issues with some other RTAs.
When I clean it next I'll check all the o-rings and try out hitt's and your suggestions.

Regarding o-rings, I remember reading (somewhere) that some of the Fat Rabbits had a issue with the chimney o-ring being twisted new out of the box but don't recall if that was specific to the dual coil version or the Solo.
If that was an actual issue, I think I only changed out one (of 3 tanks) but don't recall any o-rings actually looking messed up on any of them.

Thanks again to you and hitt for trying to help figure it out!

I made some progress on the landscape project but still have a long way to go. The neighbor behind me was out and we ended up talking about an hour.
    Saved from an hours work.:D

Good evening. My electrical is complete and I am a lot poorer. 82 outlets done, a new breaker line, fixed faulty wiring from the garage door opener and other places. Some of the outlets were burned which is scary. One of our neighbors had wiring issues a couple years ago and their house burned down. Same builder so.....

Got 2 new tires on the Fiat, trying to put the house back together after all the furniture was moved for the electrical work. I hope all that is left is getting the AC in the car working. I'm tired.

I’ve only refilled once so far. I have the bottom and top airflows just slightly cracked open. I don’t like a super airy draw. No seeping yet. I do agree that most tanks have different tastes with the same liquid. I used to use rtas exclusively but fell in love with the itanks and coils so have been using those a lot. I do really like the dead rabbit mtl 2 tank a lot and have kept it in rotation since I reviewed it. I’ll let you know if I get any seeping. Like you mentioned, might be a good idea to replace the seals with the spares.
Question about seals. What would you be looking for when you check seals? I sometimes check them
but all I'm really looking for is tears or broken edges. Are there any other signs worthy of attention?.

    Bet you are tired.

I don't have a Hellvape Fat Rabbit Solo.

Perhaps (maybe???) the reason you are getting leakage/seeping is because the shoulders of your wick, where they come out of the coil, are resting on the deck where the airflow is under the coil.

    View attachment 1030120

And maybe, drawing excess juice to the path of least resistance, the airflow sitting under the coil???

My Atmizoo Tripod RTA has a "similar" build deck. And it's deck is very much like all the newer Kayfun RTA's.

What most of us with Kayfun's learned is to move the wick shoulders away from the airflow. And that's also what I do with my Tripod.

    Like so.............. Tripod deck.......

    View attachment 1030121

I use a sewing needle to move the wick away from the center block where the AF is. Moving the wick shoulders away from the center AF block I don't get any seeping/leakage with my Tripod or modern Kayfun's.

And I also have my coil about 2mm above the AF. Your second photo looks to be ~2mm above also???

Maybe try moving your wick shoulders away from the center AF block and see if that helps???

    Just a thought. :)
This caught my attention. I recently started using a Kayfun 5 and I get juice seeping out of the air holes at the bottom. Is that one of the "modern Kayfun's" you referenced? I'm only on my first coil and third wick and getting frustrated with the seepage. There are a couple of adjustments you can make to the K5 and I've been playing with them with no success.

Yes, for tears and edges but I try to compare them to new ones to see if they are flattened or stretched.

I tried rayon a couple times but didn’t care for it. The cotton you suggested is definitely superior but I already had a bunch of the COTN threads. Also, I’m a bit lazy and the threads make life easy.
For some reason I changed from cotton to rayon a few years ago. Maybe I should give cotton another try. I have an ancient bag of Cotton Bacon sitting around. Does cotton have an expiry date?

I sure hope not. I have a big bag of koh gen cotton pads in my basement stash.

Yes, the Kayfun 5 has a modern deck.

Try moving the wick tails away from the center AF block.

If that doesn't help then change these two o-rings.

Also, if you haven't already, checkout the Authentic Svoemesto Kayfun 5 thread. There is a ton of excellent, and very useful, info there.

Not sure if you have the K5 exploded diagram, so I included that too (see bottom of post).

I used to have a K5, didn't like it. It was designed for RDL and DL vaping. There were many complaints so SvoëMesto then designed/released the MTL kit for it. I didn't like it even w/the MTL kit. Ended up giving it to my younger brother, who still loves it for DL.

Does cotton have an expiry date?

Did any of your cotton jeans, shirts, underwear or socks come with expiration tags?

    None of mine did.

No, cotton does not have an expiration date. I keep my "vape" cottons in zip lock bags.

Your question brought back memories of a very old thread. And specifically this reply to the OP's question.

Cotton does expire. I had a pair of Levi's jeans that I loved and 4 days after the expiration date, they disintegrated. It wouldn't have been so bad at home but I was at work on casual Fridays giving a presentation on Sexual Harassment and I was going commando at the time. The VP made me sit through my own class as punishment.

That post still makes me LMFAO.:lol:

ETA: the rest of that thread is pretty funny as well

I always lube the deck o-rings with VG whenever I change wicks or builds. O-rings will dry out and become worn eventually if they are not kept clean and lubed.

If there is juice seepage from any of the connection points on an RTA that is a sure sign that one or more o-rings are worn out, or damaged, and need to be replaced.

Which is why I suggested replacing those two o-rings on your K5. All authentic Kayfun's (probably clones too) need a nice tight vacuum.
