Good morning, hitt. :) I guess you needed the sleep.
I’ve been staying up late the last couple nights. I’ll get back on track tonight to prepare for going back to work Monday.

So, the bills from my two eye surgeries came in last week. After United Healthcare paid their portion the remaining hospital bill was quite expensive. Like very!

She said I should call the hospital financial advocate department (every hosp. has one). I called them on Monday. Today they called to tell me they are writing off my entire portion.

The hospital system is part of the third-largest in the country. Their revenue was just over $34.8 billion last year.
I had cataract surgery to right eye about 3 weeks ago. My cost after insurance was $900. I need to get my left eye done but I'm trying to wait until I'm Medicare eligible so that entire cost is covered. I will say that I was somewhat worried about vaping after the procedure. I slept the entire day of but that night I started vaping again, There does not seem to be any adverse effects from it. My follow up with the doc is first week of Jan where she will judge healing. I'm amazed at how much better I can see after just having one eye done.

Last night we went to Target to get some led bulbs for our living room ceiling fan since the wife looked online and they supposedly had a 4 pack of what we needed for like $10. Got there and they weren’t dimmable so had to pick something else. The four pack we got were $30. I thought it was rather extreme but I had already been to two stores looking for the ones we wanted. There’s a tinted cover over the bulbs so we needed 1600 lumen bulbs. I put them in a little bit ago and they are way brighter than the last 1600 lumen ones we had. I hope my wife doesn’t want to return them. They are on a dimmer so we can turn them down if we want. I hate shopping for bulbs. There’s just so many options and my wife is super picky about lighting.

Where is everyone today? I got in a good workout and increased my run to 3/4 mile continuous after walking 1/4 to warm up. I’m trying to do slow increases as my conditioning gets better. I haven’t been on the scale in a while but would bet I’ve added a few pounds since last time with all the holiday treats. I haven’t even touched any of the candy I was given but have had pie and cookies.

I hope your left eye goes well and wishing you continued progress for your right eye.

In October I had cataract surgery on my right eye. Doc said that was a rather challenging surgery. The cataract was unlike any he's ever seen, black and thick. Due to complications from that surgery, corneal edema, I then underwent a partial corneal transplant on 10 December. My doctor has been seeing me once per week since the transplant due to all I've endured with that eye since my childhood. Have another appt. next week and then a couple more.

So far he says I am doing far better than what they expected.

The vision in my right eye will never be what a "normal" person has with ~20/20. My right eye was 20/1000. After the corneal transplant it has improved to 20/400, a major improvement. The goal is to get it near where it was prior to the cataract, which was around 20/400 - 20/600, anything better is a bonus.

Some years back I had a couple surgeries for detached retinas in that eye. That was due to congenital optic nerve coloboma (the retina never fully formed). I lost about 70% vision due to the detached retinas. Since childhood the eye has always been considered legally blind. Though there is vision. I can now read some of the humongous letters and some numbers on their screen. LOL.

The technology does not yet exist to correct optic nerve problems like mine. Advances have been made, but we are still many years away from regenerating a healthy optic nerve to brain connection for functional eyesight. Stem cell therapy (transplant) is showing promise, but that is still in its infancy.

I have Medicare and was initially told that the cataract surgery was supposed to be fully covered by my eye doc's and their staff. So, not sure if the hospital was playing "games" to make extra $$$$ or not. Next week I will contact United Health Care and see what they say. It would not surprise me, at all, if the hospital was trying to "cheat" the system and thinking I would just pay their bill and not look into it.

During the ride home after both surgeries I vaped. My surgeon told me vaping is not an issue. He is super happy I vape versus cigs. His wife vapes. LOL

I am on anti rejection eye drops and will be for quite some time and "perhaps" the rest of my life. There is still a chance my body could reject the donor partial cornea. If so he will do another partial transplant. My feeling is "whatever happens, happens", I can't control what I can't control. I'm prepared for whatever, though my mental attitude is extremely positive.

Even though I was sedated for the corneal transplant I was awake and aware of everything they were doing. That totally amused me!

Two and a half weeks out and doing better than they expected - that's a huge win IMHO.

sorry for the long post......... LOL

Holy crap, I knew yours was more complicated than a cataract but was unaware as to extent of the issues. My right eye was 20/400 and I could only see the giant E on the eye chart. Now I can actually walk around the house without glasses, see street signs when driving and I feel a lot more confident on my feet. I had no idea how much I had restricted and/or modified my walking due to poor eyesight. I'm thrilled to learn of your success as "far better than expected" with the corneal transplant. Wishing continued progress to you!:thumb:

After my detached retina's I lost about 70% on the right side. Going from full peripheral vision in my right eye to none hit me hard. It took me well over a year to get used to "nothing being over there".

Totally threw-off my spatial awareness. I had to relearn walking around corners without bumping into walls. Driving seemed like all new to me. I adjusted, it just took time.

I am very thankful, and then some, for the vision I do have.

That's not much. You got lucky.
Things are never as simple as they sound. We cleaned the flower bed and put down mulch. Then she wanted new sand between the stone walkway around it. Then wanted to weed the garden and put down pine bark we bought a month or two ago. I’m not complaining but went into it expecting things to escalate.
