I've been doing twisted parallel builds lately and really been digging them. My initial concern with this type of build was that my wick wouldn't be able to keep up with such a long beefy coil. Literally no issues as far as burnt hits, dry spots, etc. with rayon. I can vape my RDAs to where the wick is literally bone dry with no problems. I'm kind of surprised that cotton still seems to be the more popular wicking material in the general vaping world. I find rayon to be superior in every way, better, more consistent wicking action, cleaner flavor, easier to work with, lasts longer, and it's cheaper. I haven't even thought about cotton since I made the switch to rayon.

What's even better is I found out about it because of you, and it is better then any other rayon I've used. I even get a better nights sleep with the melatonin. I thought the Sally's would be a better deal but it turns out for a few bucks I get the better rayon and three months of a better nights sleep so even though it cost more per inch of rayon it's still better then the better deal, you think I would have known better.

Or as a guy I worked with use to say, "much more gooder."

But seriously, that melatonin really does help me get a good night sleep, the only reason I tried it was because I didn't want to just throw it away. Yeah it was less then a couple of bucks and the rayon alone was worth the price but I too am cheap. :) I even saved all the empty bottles, I'll use them for some thing one day.

BTW, WalMart doesn't carry the 1 mg pills anymore and it's no longer listed on their website, they have the higher mg but I don't think they put any rayon or cotton in those bottles. Must be we bought we pushed the sales too high, Spring Valley can't find rayon to pack in the 1 mg bottles and we ruined a good thing.
Yeah Willy, but don't forget: Melatonin is a neurotransmitter (hormone above your neck). If you take it from an external source for too long, your own natural/internal mechanism for providing melatonin will atrophy (shrivel up and die). I used to only take the stuff when I had a big meeting, presentation or exam the next morning.

Back in 2013 when i pulled it out I thought it looked like the best cotton I had ever seen. So I tried it.. But yet I didn't think it was cotton. No one had any answers, so I researched and found out it was in fact rayon. No one had any answers if it was ok, mostly said I'd die.. Lol... So I started using degummed hemp... After a while on hemp I still felt I was really missing something... So i tried the rayon again, and man that was the ticket, blew everything away.. Nic buzz instantly, so I started this thread
When I first used rayon from a bottle of calcium supplement, I thought it was cotton all along. In fact it wasn't until I decided to "process" some cotton balls to add to my dwindling supply, did I realize that what I had been using was decidedly different from the cotton balls; much more 'refined' with no little balls of fiber, much straighter fibers, and a sheen that was missing from cotton. Enough different that it made me do a search for "cotton substitute", which led me to viscose- and eventually to this thread. So I can honestly state that I have never used cotton as a wick. That means nothing I realize, but at least I didn't have to 'unlearn' anything to do with using cotton before switching to rayon!

I was just going through my old notes and ran across this:

"The industry standard gram weights for pharmaceutical coils are 9 grams, 12 grams, and 16 grams per linear yard, although other gram weights are available upon request from 4-26 grams."

Note- "Pharmaceutical coils" are what's used to pack medicine bottles, like melatonin, etc. The different weights correspond with different sized bottle openings.

As a point of reference, my Graham rayon from Sally's (500' box) weighs exactly 3 grams per yard.

I'm curious what gauge wire are you twisting together, the ohms, coil ID, atty, watts? Cause I'm getting ready to twist up some wire and need a jumping in point.

Thinking about getting some ribbon wire. What size should I start with? Currently using 27g round Kanthal. I like em at right around 0.7-0.8Ω. But I guess you can go a little higher than that with ribbon and get the same performance, right? (because of better contact)

I've been having a little trouble consistently trapping wire in post holes (Orchid mostly). That's why I'm thinking about ribbon.

It looks like you could use 0.8 x 0.1 or 0.9 x 0.1 ribbon as a substute for your 27g round Kanthal.

ETA, note that the ribbon is thin, so the threaded end of the screw will need to bottom out in the post before the screw head does.

I have noticed a lot of Origen owners use Kanthal ribbon and mesh in their Genny's.
How does the mesh compare to Rayon for wicking and flavour? Is it worth looking into?
No one carries mesh around here, so I would have to get some online. I should only use Stainless Steel mesh?

I have two genny's (don't play with much at the moment) but mesh was a pain in the rear end! I got some great results wicking them with rayon though. :)
