Sooo instead of sleeping, I spent the night surfing the net in search of titanium wire to bring the most out of my rayon wicks. Germany is full of grade 2 titanium but grade 1 is almost impossible to find. In spain I found two stores. One claims it's grade 1 but the source seems a bit shady. There are definitely some connection to those e-cig geeks guys so I would rather avoid it. The other store had much better prices but there are two problems: a) they can't confirm it's grade 1. They will check this afternoon and get back to me. b) The metric sizes they have are not exactly what I was looking for. They have 0.4mm (26awg), 0.32 (28AWG - Out of stock), 0.3mm (29awg), 0.25mm (30 awg).

If they can confirm that it is really grade 1 then I'll have to choose another size... probably 29AWG as 28AWG is out of stock and 26AWG seems to thick.

The trouble one must go through to enjoy a vape... :D

Btw, I know this has been answered before but I can't find it right now... are Tidi Rayon balls better than Sally's? I found them in Europe but they go at around US$2 for like 10 balls. Don't know how much you can make out of one ball but would like to know how it compares to Sally's.

Thx

I'm interested to here from those who have used rayon balls a lot. I had some sent to me, what I found is the individual strands are not in a straight line like other rayon I have used which is the Sally's and that from the Melatonin bottles. The strands are in tiny round loops, now those loops are more or less in line but it is different. It looks like the strands came out of the extruder orifice that way, I can see where it makes the rayon fluffier then straight stands and would make for a better medical ball but my concern is how well fluid travels along those loops in the way we use rayon. I didn't use a lot in my testing, it did seem to preform about the same as the Sally's but I mainly vape the clearo type atty's. I've been using those Pro Tank II's for some time now, before then I used the Kanger T3S clearos which take the same coil head. I stopped using it I guess because when I picked it up and looked at it I had a basis against it based on it's appearance, yeah that's shallow isn't it. I'm happy to say that's one of the very few basis I have.

The Subtank is stupid easy to build. I like the way the wire catches between the side wall and underneath the screw head. Wish more decks had that feature.

Yeah that's a nice idea for sure. My first thought when I saw that was how many clones will be out there with the wrong size screw heads making the feature useless.

I have delascos balls, which should be similar, they are a bit cleaner IMO, fibers are a little shinier and silkier. I prefer them to Sally's because they are fluffier. But I'm running Sally's right now to 260+ ml

The springiness IMO helps keep it more snug in the coil, I seem to be able to use less density with it because it stays puffier. The bottle rayon I think retains even more spring.

As a result of the differences I have a little trouble let switching back and forth because of the different density each needs. Fwiw Sally's seems to be more touchy for me. The other two seem easier for me, I think they have a wider range because of the outward pressure from the fiber wanting to puff out more.

I was totally clueless and essentially my first experience with building coils and wicking was/is with the Delasco. After unrolling it and stretching a section of it out a bit, I used the entire width of the unrolled rayon ball...after rolling it between my palms like I watched you do. I worked it into a ~3 mm I.D. spaced 7 wrap coil (1 ohm) I wound on an 1/8" machine screw with 26 ga. Kanthal. It was a really snug fit, but 3 tanks in, it seems to be working really well with no diminishing flavor at all. I haven't been hitting it too hard though, because I've read that this little RBA insert for my Subtank Mini is notorious for poor juice flow and I am using a thick 80/20 VG/PG. I did take great care brushing out the tails with a needle and trimming them to exacting recommendations though. I figured, in the long run, it would be more efficient to take the time to try and do it right the first time. I still have a lot to learn (read: everything), but, at least now, I'm confident it's not just a viable option; it's potentially the superior option.

Addendum: I've been making side by side real time flavor comparisons with an Aspire Nautilus with the new OC coils in it, a Kanger Subtank Nano with the .5 ohm OC coils and this Kanger Subtank Mini equipped with the RBA unit wicked with rayon, all with the same juice, and the rayon wicked tank is the hands down winner for flavor by a long shot.

I've used med bottle rayon (said to be among the best available) and Sallys, both side by side in identical attys, also one after the other in the same atty, and just in general everyday use. The difference in taste between these two to me is undetectable. Same for wicking. That said, I don't vape "on the edge", where there might be a noticeable difference.

I think 26 would be OK, but 29 gives you more flexibility; you can always twist two strands of it together if you want a "thicker" wire.

I gave away the remaining 480' of Cellucotton I had left shortly after I received my box of Tidi balls.

Thx for the info.

Just need confirmation about the grade. Most here in Europe seems to be either grade 2 or supplied by imeo. I would like an independent source. Fingers crossed.

I will order those tidi balls and also some fiber freaks to compare to my Sally cellucotton :)

Yes. Unfortunately they aren't available in Europe... Well, not until now although 2 bucks for 10 balls is rather steep compared to 1000 for 15... But you have to start somewhere right?

How much can you get of one ball anyway?

Just rewick with Rayon for the 1st time...I like it. Thanks to the video and tips, it helped me got it right the first time. Will be bringing this Lemo Drop on a weekend trip...I trust it will not give me any issue.

Welcome, glad you like it!

If you make it through the first day you should be golden.
