Not that different conceptually than those heretics using rayon, is it?

Do you remember when atty manufacturers all recommended silica? Many of them would include some in the package with the atty. Back in those days, people using cotton were regarded as heretics. That was what, a year and a half ago?
You might be right....

So... What gauge size do you recommend, initial Watt and temp settings and how does it behave under screws? :)

I used to get a kick out of everyone's shock over rayon.. It was quite a long road there to get everyone set straight on it.

Well remember that guy that said rayon melts.. Lol.. I'm at 42 days now 235- 250 ml. Still going strong.:).. Only problem is I may not remember how to rebuild it, its been so long.. Lol

You may be joking but believe me or not, it felt really weird when I rewicked for the first time after almost two months with the same wick. It was as if I couldn't remember exactly how to wick that erlprinz (which isn't the easiest to wick when you're new to it).

:)

Started to look into titanium... Omg... This learning thing never ends does it?

Is grade 2 ok for vaping? Grade 1 is softer and more ductile though... 28g?

Wait... This is the rayon thread. Where is the ti thread?

Lets try again:

Would a rayon wick benefit from being used inside a ti coil in terms of purity of the flavor, heating / cooling characteristics of the ti wire and longevity? :)

26 or 28 if you can get it. All I could get last year were 24 and 30. The 24 is a bit stiff. 30 is a bit thin. I've been using 3 strands of 30 tightly twisted together, like this. Remember though, you need PURE titanium, not some Greek mystery alloy.

initial Watt and temp settings
Watt settings depend much on what type of atty you're using and your vaping style. Temperature setting: Try 330-350F. Understand the actual temperature will be higher than that.

and how does it behave under screws? :)
Well, it's titanium, not wimpy nickel.

Titanium is rather the opposite of nickel; it tends to be a bit hard and spring. Hence grade 1 is preferred because it's the softest. I've had no issues with it breaking under screws or getting cut through. The only issue I've had is that screws should be checked to see if they're still tight after a bit of use, particularly if it seems like your resistance is less stable than it should be.

Thx for the tips. I have access to ti 28 gauge but it's grade 2

Have to look around. It will be interesting... :)

Tony,

Look here for characteristics and uses of the different grades of titanium: Titanium Grades Information - Properties and Applications for all Titanium Alloys & Pure Grades - Supraalloys.com

It looks like grades 1 thru 4 are used in medical industry and grade 7 is used for medical instruments.

I spoke with a friend this morning that used to use titanium wire but he says he stopped using it since it once cought fire while dry burning. Said it was the scariest moment in his life as he was rebuilding his atty on his bed (?!) and he was afraid the sparks would put his bed on fire...

I'm not sure I should believe him or if he has been smoking things that make you laugh... ?

Probably he was using low grade titanium wire.

I'm using titanium wire from esmoke guru. No problems here.

The thing is you should NOT dryburn titanuim wire

IMO, pure titanium should NOT be used on anything EXCEPT a temperature-regulated mod. It works great in that application, but indeed, if you get it too hot, it will form lots of oxides.
You CAN dry-burn it, but you have to be real careful about how hot you get it.

For non-temperature regulated applications, ESG's titanium mystery alloy is a better choice because its much more resistant to such oxidation, but it doesn't have a high enough TCR for temperature regulation.

Be careful. Much of what they sell is their special alloy, which is not a commercially pure titanium and doesn't have sufficient TCR to use on a temperature regulated mod.
I know. I'm using it on my beloved istick 50 :)

The wire is great and gives me better flavor but I'm too lazy to change it every time it gunks up
