I'm still a bit confused as to why the feminine aid manufacturers were ever bleaching Rayon?! I have seen a lot of bad reports about rayon tampons, some are the regular 'but it's plastic' type junk... others are related to the bleaching... one talked about bacterial growth being really high. Ugh, makes me wanna grab my pitchfork and just play follow-the-leader. I also see a lot of the same 'organic Vs.' discussions too... as though that actually makes any difference in itself. Some talk about sustainability, nothing about organic rayon yet... non-ECF peeps please meet the 21st century... we now have sustainable and organic (non-viscose) rayon... enjoy!

from About OB Tampons

WHAT WE’RE MADE OF

What are o.b.® tampons made of?

o.b.® tampons are made of two types of rayon and a polyester string. The cover for o.b.® ORIGINAL™ is made of polyester/polyethylene non-woven material and that of o.b.® PRO COMFORT® is made of polyethylene/polypropylene film. 90% of raw materials used for o.b.® tampons come from renewable resources.

Is there chlorine bleach in o.b.® tampons?

No. Production of o.b.® tampons involves only "elemental chlorine-free" bleaching processes, which do not cause the production of dioxins. State-of-the-art testing of tampon fibers that can detect even trace amounts of dioxin has shown that dioxin levels are at or below the detectable limits, posing no risk to tampon users' health.

Is there asbestos in o.b.® tampons?

No, asbestos is NOT an additive and has never been added to o.b.® tampons. For additional information, please visit this website.

off to the store I run :rickroll:

Let's take it easy guys.. In other words keep it on the down low... If you got a source that's fine, for some its not so easy... They don't want to order online, get a huge box, no Sally's near by, ect, ect.

For someone interested in trying rayon on the spot, what better way than being able to go to the local store and for less than a happy meal pick up some quality rayon, try it, and then proclaim how ... great it is..

In reality its only going to spread the rayon word faster..

Pill bottle rayon has become elusive and Ku is the same dang thing. Just in a feminine package.

You know they put kogendo in these things too right? And charge triple for less performance...

This is the same as all the other kinds just cleaner than some.

I've known about the source but was waiting for a time when I could come out and say it. We are to that point that rayon can not be stopped and we are so large that it won't hurt the movement.

Some may call it brave to do what I've done, others may poke fun.. Like I said before - I don't care!

I'm here to help people get a better vape. Period.

For someone interested in trying rayon on the spot, what better way than being able to go to the local store find some already in stock in under the sink in the bathroom that your wife or daughter uses.
Fixed that for you.

But personally, I'll stick to my Tidi balls, thanks. After all, I have a lifetime supply. :D

Read the fda statement on it. It explains everything. This is essentially the same as the other rayons. We've already done this research in the beginning. It was the first thing people tried to throw out about rayon.

The rayon haters in that industry have already long ago been debunked in this thread, and by the fda, and major universities.

I'm not sure I follow - viscose becomes rayon a cellulose chain. Cellulose is organic. The fda defines rayon as being pure cellulose.

This may answer that question:

Why is bleaching done on the raw materials used to make Tampax® tampons? Is it done only to whiten the fibers?
Purification of the cellulose fibers used to make rayon and purification of cotton are done to eliminate the impurities which would inhibit our ability to make clean absorbent fibers. By cleaning the fibers in this manner, we can make a better performing product with fewer raw materials, which has clear benefits for the environment. Whitening the fibers is a result of this process, but not its goal.

from TSS - tampon safety - about tampons - Tampax.co.uk

From what I read tampax is a mix of rayon and cotton and in some cases maybe other materials. I'd not recommend that unless someone wants to email them and find out what they actually use and on which products

It will take a bit to feel this rayon out.. I know I wicked it too tight but I can't decide if there may be a little bit of residual bleaching agent left on it.. They would want it completely clean and free of pathagens... Will have to see, I'll rinse some for my next wicking and see if there's any difference. Also try one unrinsed with a little less density. But it will be a while before I do.

BigJ you are the man, willing to go above and beyond for the team! I have a few comments about you and your willingness to suck on a tampon for our learning and advancement but maybe I better keep them to myself so I can keep my ECF account active

No pun intended :D

My wife is at the supermarket. I sent her a text stating I needed o.b tampons URGENTLY

Her answer, and I quote:

Are you insane?

Lol

Its the same as any just a different package. They also use clean cotton, organic cotton, and probably for the high end, kogendo cotton. So yeah not sucking on a pon, just using the quality rayon out of it. :)

Yes at this time I only recommend KU.
Its clearly labeled.
They created the original & first rayon pon after using it in the battlefields for wound treatment, bullet holes, amputations and such. It worked so great the nurses said hell why don't we....

I have a question that is veeeery far away from the tampon topic :)
I've got a rayon that is presumably just like sallys that you use. BUT this is sooo different than the viscose that I use that i can confuse it with organic cotton.

So my question is : is the rayon that you use so similar to organic cotton that you can get confused what you using.

The viscose that I am using feels very different than cotton

Did you burn test it to smell the smoke and see the ash?

Smoke will smell more like paper from rayon where as cotton smells more like leaves.

Rayon has a light grey, airy ash that will blow away easily in the wind. Cotton has a blacker heavier ash.

Obviously polyester will smell of plastic and chemicals as well as melt into a blob.

The pharmaceutical/bottle/KU is a dryer looking rayon that seems more coarse maybe.. The balls are shinier and silkier. Sally's is in between and seems finer.

I like the pharmacuitical better myself.
