Same here, I'll have to give that a try. :) I've thought about welding legs but haven't got there yet. When I build a new coil I pulse it on the lowest setting just enough until it stops smoking and that has helped to keep from burning the insulators but once in a while I'll scorch one.

With 50 packs of NR-R-NR coils for $2, is it worth welding up the wires?
Lightning Vapes sells Silicone insulators for Kanger coils, they must be more resilient than the rubber ones.

Im gonna cut in off topic...
If you guys have watched the news or weather, that big tornado in illinios started 10-15 mi from my house. Petty crazy! At least it was mostly farm land... At my old job, I worked for a lot of those people in that whole area.

I saw it in the break room at work, glad you and yours are safe brother!

Wow a search for Rayon brought me to this thread... I'm going to hazard a guess that there are a few Rayon boffins here...

I'm a REO fan boy and use predominantly the Cyclone with a micro coil (1,5mm) of between 1,0Ω to 1,2Ω and I vape mostly Menthol Juices. I have tried most of the wicking materials and by far for me Rayon is the one that gives me the best taste from the get go... when I started on rayon a few months ago I was pretty excited about the taste being so good and my wick was lasting me a couple of days...

Nowadays I change wicks at least twice a day because nothing beats the taste of a fresh Rayon wick and changing wicks on a Cyclone is a piece of cake!

I wondered if I was the only lunatic changing wicks so often? I have taken to going out with a little toolkit with me when I leave the house in case I want to change wicks.

Welcome to the thread :)

I think each one changes wick whenever they feel bored. I changed wicks twice this past week but I have also only rewicked after 45 days and 272ml of juice... I don't change rayon because I need, I change because I'm bored :D

Thanks for the welcome Tony!

Wow! That's one good value for money piece of rayon!

I guess because I vape one particular menthol coconut juice 98% of the time I have become very particular about the exact taste and I find after half a day I can taste the change... putting in a new wick is instantaneous pleasure again!

I don't notice a big decay, especially not after a couple of days.

Depends on a lot of factors like coil dimensions, spaced versus compressed etc.

Somebody else will probably chime in but I'm sure some members of the Rayonati have reported longer lasting performance out of larger id, spaced coils.

Ahhhh that could be an issue... I have a small diameter coil and tightly wrapped... something to play with this week then... space my coils and make the diameter bigger with more rayon! Thanks Tony! Will play!

Tony I just realised it was you who sent me here in the first place from the SX Mini thread! ;-) Thanks for that... My SX Mini is on it's way to darkest Africa as we speak!

I actually sent another member I think but if you got it too, the more the better :)

Don't be afraid of using something like 3mm as inner id and space out the coil. You will certainly be surprised... Micro coils are so 2014... :D

Most likely, yes. :D

Personally I like 'em best after they get some miles on 'em. I just pulled one out of a BF Cyclone after 3 weeks and likely over 100 ml of juice. There was no real reason for it except I was putting a different atty on that mod.

How much gunk is on your coil when you change wicks? Are you dry-burning them every time?

Very little if any gunk... and yes I dry burn the coil every time.

Your 100ml of juice wick... what was the diameter of your coil?

I wonder if the rayon in my 1,5mm microcoil is not swelling after a few hours and is maybe a little tight? I'll experiment a bit with that too.

2mm. Titanium. 3 strands of 30 gauge, tightly twisted together. ~0.25 ohms. On a DNA40, of course. :)

I suspect the opposite. Rayon doesn't swell, it it does anything, it shrinks. In fact, if it tastes good at first and goes downhill quick, chances are it has shrunk to point where it's no longer in full contact with the coil. I'd suggest you want more rayon in there rather than less, if you want to reduce your maintenance.

Hello Robfisher and welcome to the thread! The OP of this thread JeremyR, the one who brought rayon to the vaping world, has complied some tips and some of the key posts from this thread in his blogs here --> E-Cigarette Forum - JeremyR - Blogs

I'm sure he'll be along sometime today and respond as well. Jeremy has some good posts the last month that you may want to check out, just search his username in the thread for the last month using the search feature.

Are you in diamond and gold country over there like we see on TV? :)

I think the larger diameter bit might vary. I'm a wimp (0.7 - 1Ω single coil on mech) and having better luck with 2mm - 2.4mm coils. When I was using 3mm coils, I think the fatter wicks were overfeeding the coil, causing the excess juice to gunk. But I guess if you were doing higher power, you would need that better flow of juice. Ive definitely had more success with spaced coils vs touching.
