I wouldn't recommend a VTC Mini yet (I think it's a nice device), too new and may have a hardware issue pop up.

If money isn't an issue I would recommend a DNA200 with dual 18650. Or on the cheaper side an SXK Zero v3.
For $29 is it really a big deal if it might have hardware issues down the road... It has some of the most accurate TC specs out there. I'm just waiting for the SS wire firmware patch. :)

Because everyone in this thread is just so awesome and I've never gotten a bad recommendation from y'all, I got a question.
A friend of mine is coming up this weekend because he wants to switch from cigs to vape. He's an electronics tech and learns quick, so I have no problem setting him up with more complex systems... the question is, what is a good, solid box mod with replaceable batteries (18650), TC isn't necessary but nice to have. Prefer something pretty durable, not too fidgety and glitchy. Price isn't too much of an issue...
I'll probably set him up with a tank of some variety and maybe an RDA... depending on what's available at the shop. And of course he ain't leaving my house without 100' of rayon! :D

(Also suggestions for tanks are greatly appreciated but not necessary. I'm thinking something with replaceable coil heads for now, he'll have time to play with an RDA before moving on to an RTA.)

I just got PIF'ed an IPV mini and am loving it, but the previous posted are much better. As far as a tank, I'd almost say a subtank mini, best of both worlds right there!

No at $29 it's definitely a no-brainer, I have only seen them for $50+

It is not accurate in Ti mode unless something changed from the VT, I haven't been following it since it doesn't have TCR but maybe it's different than the VT?

Define accurate. I mean does it really matter?.... I think of TC as a method of not scorching wicks. I don't care if I set it to 400 and it only gets to 380. Too cold, crank it up. Too hot, crank it down. How much .....ing was heard when a 50w device only put out 45, or 47? Now we are on temp accuracy? IMO the next TC mods should come with a universal dummy scale from 0-100. 0 is no vape and 100 is scorched earth territory. KISS! Give users too much information and they become experts on something they will never understand.

Look at the beyond ni200 thread. Lots of good information in there about wires and such, but for what? Some n'th of a degree more accuracy!? How about no formaldehyde or other crap when my dripper runs dry?

I don't really see the fascination with accuracy in this case and I am an engineer! Accurate enough to not scorch a wick??? I'm sold.

If the mini evic has firmware upgrade-ability at $29 that is a steal hands down. I wouldn't even care about the cyan color. :)

Sorry if this sounds pompous. I've had a few and not directing this to anyone that posted earlier.

The whole point of TC is accurate temperature control, not about burning wicks. At least not to me.

I want to build a coil, be it Ti, SS ni200..etc, set my TCR, set my wattage|temperature and get the same vape regardless of wire type. Repeatability is where temperature control shines in my opinion, this juice is great at 430, this at 480..etc. Offsets may allow this and they may not, depends on the wire, ohm range and mod. Not burning your wick is just a bonus ;)

I said at that low price the VTC Mini was a no-brainer, definitely better than an iStick TC.

I think it has changed since the VT.
Phil has not reviewed it yet but Obi seems to like it, I really wish Obi did reviews in english.
Possibly our fellow Rayonati @Zakillah could give us a short summary of Obi's findings on the VTC after the Atomizer stuff. ;)

I do watch Obi's vids sometimes, but mostly out of curiousity about the accuracy of the numbers and the oscilloscope stuff, that he does pretty good and I do apprechiate it.
On the other Hand, it's hard to endure an entire vid of his, because frankly, he is kinda boring. His slooow as molasses talking isnt helping much either.
Anyways, I'll have a look at the vid later when I can. Currently on vacation and the wife will prolly get angry if I start watching vape vids right now, heh.

Much Appreciated!
When you get a chance, there is no rush. Don't make the Mrs. angry by any means. ;)

Alright here is a short summary:

All bugs of the VT gone. Can TC on any wattage now and doesnt possibly scorch coils at 30W when put out of TC to VW.

Overall it's built very well, good battery door, buttons dont rattle. Spring loaded brass pin.
Very accurate power output, nice flat signal on boost and stepdown.
Read a resistance of 1,25 at 1,26; so Ohm readings seem good as well.
Very accurate temperature control, he only tested Ni at 240C, though. Clocked in at a max temp of 245.
No power spikes in TC mode, again, nice flat signal, best signal he'd ever seen tied with the Dicodes devices.
Overall only "complain" is missing temp coefficiant option, which, of course at this price, is more a wish then anything else.
Three thumbs up, buy the damn thing now.

Still don't know about fixed Ti accuracy, it was always accurate in Ni200 AFAIK.

Not important if you don't care about titanium but it is if you do. Personally I won't vape Ni200. I would still purchase the device since even if inaccurate in Ti the device is upgradeable.

Ready to go out the box d.

I do like to take half a strand and spread it out a little then roll it back up. There's a few different ways to get enough density in the coil. Basically when it stops and you think you can't pull anymore through.. Pull that through to the other side and your density should be pretty good.

Ask for any help you need here many of us will help you. I also have some videos on my youTube channel by the same screen name.

No need to boil or wash it. DO wash your hands before wicking with it though. It can easily pick up anything on your hands, like cleaners, foods or whatever.

thanks guys. Ready to try this out
