Now I am reading all over the place that ecig users are having other people complain about the odor from the ecigs. Is this going to be as bad as smoke from the analogs? I thought ecigs were free from ANY smell, and I'm very disappointed to hear that they are not. When I smoked "regular" cigarettes people reacted with revulsion. I fear it will be the same way with the ecigs, unless someone finds a way for them to truly be odor-free (as they were advertised). Would you call this "false advertising"?

Its tough to say for sure with how much conflicting info there is. Some people say there is no smell what so ever, some people say there is a faint smell of the flavor you happen to be vaping and some say there is definitely an odor.. So who knows really?.. I think it comes down to just trying it out and seeing what you think. Im sure a lot of it is just in their heads. They expect there to be an odor so to them there is an odor, whether or not there actually is. Again, it comes down to mind over matter. If you think, rather convince yourself there is an odor, then there will be an odor.

I'm not sure what you are looking for Karen. You state "When I smoked..", does this mean you no longer smoke? Are you looking for a reason to begin using an e-cig or a reason to denounce them?

Most smells (I prefer to call them scents) that come from electronic cigarettes are quite pleasant although faint. I regularly have someone at work commenting that they smell cotton candy when they pass my cubicle. I have to say I find that much more gratifying than smelling like an ashtray.

Help me out here... what is it you are trying to find out?

My Dad who is a Non-Smoker and hates the smell of smoke with a fiery vengeance... Ok let me start over well I have on several occasiions been stuck in the car with my dad on long ... roadtrips and this is a man who leaves his windows up and uses the AC only... I have Vaped like crazy in his car almost hot boxing the thing and at best my Dad has commented on some of the fruity flavors calling me an air freshener for his car while I vape... so yes they may smell a bit but depending on flavor in most cases the oder is pleasent...

Karen, what is the big "alarm" about this that you started two different threads on the same subject within 2 days?

I haven't been vaping for long but no strangers have complained to me. Twice now, I've been with groups of people I know in a closed room, some smokers, some non-smokers. I specifically asked about it both times. Some could smell a slight non-offensive odor, some smelled nothing, no one complained. They may give off some slight odor, but hardly in the same league as analogs.

Where is 'all over the place'? I want to read it too. I have vaped 'all over the place' and only one person could smell anything and that was sweet from RY4. Please point me to this reading and negative scent comments. dawn

I agree .... the _only_ flavor I have had any comment on was the RY4 .. my son said it smelled like "toasted marshmallows" ... lol and then proceeded to search the cupboards for a bag of marshmallows to toast ........ :)

My son told me that my watermelon vapor smelled like cat pee. No one else smelled anything. Some of the sweeter liquids do seem to give off a faint smell but it's pleasant and dissipates quickly, very much UNlike cigarette smoke.

Yeah I suppose it could be false advertising to claim it's all odor free. However I've blown vapor straight at my husband's face (tobacco flavor) and he said it had no odor at all. Go figure. Maybe it depends on the flavor or the person.

If you've not tried vaping yet maybe you could find someone near you in Maryland who vapes and give it a test?

I have never had anyone say there was any harsh smell at all. At most, less then what a nice smelling candle would throw off--and some flavors have no smell at all. Either way the smell does not linger like a cigarette----------Sun

Have you actually bought an e-cig yet?

My husband vapes at work, at his desk, around other people. None of his co-workers have called the waaaaambulance.

Good question. After taking a brief look at her old posts she already has a 901. It's puzzling why someone who already has an e-cig would be wondering if they smell ??

Usually it's non-smokers who say anything - smokers usually don't notice, I guess because their sense of smell has been degraded from smoking.
There are always going to be people who smell what no one else can - like those who claim they can smell your analog from across the football field outdoors in a rainstorm with wind blowing in your face at 40 MPH.
