MachTechVpr who's done a ton of research about the ceramic wick material says the deflection of the fibers helps this wick better. The good contact with the coil insures the wick can feed it without getting dry burns. Too loose and you'll end up with a lot of dry burns.

the left side of the coil on right has wraps that are a little to loose, notice it's not been cooking at the same rate as the right side. I got that side messed up wrestling it into a Nuppin the first time I coiled one.

FB this is a excellent description with pics to help understand the importance of good contact on the RxW. It could be the difference in someone liking the RxW or not.

Agree with both accounts +++

The ugly coil RxW on one of my Nuppin's does not have a contact problem because I wrapped it on the RxW itself with an appropriate needle inside the RxW to support it. IOW, I didn't have a correct sized form to make a micro coil to "try to screw" the 3mm RxW into. Been using it every day and night as is for 2.5 months now and it still works perfectly, so haven't worried about rebuilding it.

I'm not a fan of dry hits on RxW either, but it doesn't harm the wick! Nice big lung hit followed by a bout of choking fits nicely with my new year's resolution to lose some belly!

Jesus H! "Trunker - are you ok?", "yeah - just exercising!"

T

That got me laughing

So i just took a big ole hit off one of my grands and was thinking why so dry? Then i slid the door off.... Glad its got RxW inside!!!!

Oh goodie....you should have heard that!

If the bottle is empty you will hear a fart. If you did not fart the bottle is empty.

Clear as mud, no?

:toast:

Cheers.

It's really gratifying to hear that some of you are benefitting from a simple tool and some of my suggestions. I do believe tensioned coils whether spaced or contact can add significantly to our experience. But all the same I'm glad this New Year to hear of your successes here in REOland. Almost makes me a believer!

Now if only we could double our community with a quick efficient technique to get to our best vape, however we wind…that would please me to no end.

Good luck all and Happy New Year.

:)

Thought maybe I should post this here since I put it in the other thread and I think it would benefit more in here. Please excuse the audio as I just had come inside from shoveling snow in -6°F weather. I also didn't have any kind of holder for my cell phone so it was all hand done, but I think it will help some people though in its current form. This is the dry burning of my Nuppin', (2mm), and Mephisto, (3mm) atty's w/ RxW...

I am a tensioned macro coiler these days. I use a 2.7 mm machine screw for a guide. For consistent tension, I am cutting a piece of wire while attaching a large vice grip on to one end, the mass of vice grip always remains unchanged for consistent tension and it dangles below a dark zero jig and I wrap toward me. It seems to work for my Odin, dual coiled at one ohm and an RM2. I use 3mm ReadyXWick, so I don't make them often.
MTV, you ought to give the Reo a try, bottom feeding has made a believer out of me, nearly indestructible, generally owner repairable and great manufacturer support with a very helpful group here.

Good method for your wind cmd. I love tensioned parallels. If only I could figure out where the heck in my home to place the one set screw that I need as a guide to tension without trashin' something I'll regret. LOL Guess like you I'll have to keep using a vice grips under the knee 'till I figure that one out.

:D

Good luck.

I've gone from Pluid to Boba's with the same wick....good as new after torching. :)

Speaks volumes, right there.

Yes, it does papa, and I'll do you one better as a picture speaks a thousand words….

Back on Jul 7 I wrote CMD a piece (tmel take a peek) on how to get the best out of NexT and tensioned winds. I'm happy to share the results of my long term test on that particular build which I'll soon take down. Mostly because I'm itchin' to stick a real 24 AWG high-powered wind in there or perhaps the twisted-center post dual adaptation I've discussed elsewhere. Anyway this 26 AWG 6-turn on 5/64" .4Ω dual has been for me one of the most reliable, powerful and stable builds ever. All due to tension and the marvelous attributes of this amazing ceramic fabric…

Using the frequent wash and minimal fire/torching strategy I've described here and on the earlier REO's NexT thread this build's managed to work flawlessly for half-a-year still providing about as superb a taste and performance result as anything I've ever done. All from a simple tensioned coil and a few cents worth of wick…

It would be my pleasure to see you all enjoy this.

So cmd I dunno about a REO's. I've got so many of these darned things already. But if I have to for more to join us and try a t.m.c. they're in my future. Russ goin' dual-coil has got me a lot more interested as I'm often low key under 10W. But I when I get a hankerin' for that big pipe or cigar experience I gotta have power and clouds man.

Good luck.

:)

p.s. I ran Boba's Bounty exclusively on this build. Mostly at .6mg undiluted, or with some Gorilla Juice as a kicker. :D
