The first taste might be free but after that it will cost you flavor and time ;)

Actually, the flavor is pretty good.... and I get a week or two between rewicking. One of these days I may try mesh or cable, but I'm just spoiled by rayon right now.

I'm so glad you guys are able to save Smann a "lot of time." (Cute that was), Ummmmmm, u are "rude," "yer wrong," and "don't feel bad," jus do it right now that you're corrected... I'm trying to retire my .... personality, while kicking in the most realist sense of the word, I don't have any tolerance for ignorant ones... Or trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

Ok, I'm done with my rant, and thankful I learned from a legend in the audio industry not to write things even in email which I could regret later. Hopefully this is not one of them.

I'm just bout to rebuild my kayfun..again, its just not performing like I've read it should.
I'm really trying to get this rayon to perform nicely but still failing. I've been using hemp fiber for eons now and guess I'm still trying to rewick with rayon the same as I was wicking with the hemp.
So from what I have read:
I should put more rayon into the build than the normal slide back and forth easily? I didn't know that rayon contracts
Cut the tails a bit longer but cut back a lot of the bulkiness of the tail?
anything else that I have missed?
Been rebuilding for 18 months now and still learning, guess I should do more research on the rayon

Due to the cosmetic makeup of rayon, rayon acts like a transporter and would make sense it is more dense than cotton... Also making sense it is way hard to choke and to the contrary of cotton, it does not expand when juiced. Cutting the bulkiness out of the tails allows the juice to travel to the coil faster, physically speaking. I'm assuming your tails don't have to be longer, just logically or appropriately trimmed.

I get some kind of weird, off balanced and unappreciated throat hit from rayon.

Hit me up if you decide to try mesh in that RSST
Will do, man... I've read that it's pretty tricky to work everything out just right, and I'm already used to rayon, so I haven't bothered with it. I'll definitely hit you up for some good advice at some point so I can see how the mesh works. :)

Looks like Tuvya already gave you the answers, but check out the rayon thread. Use the thread search function and look for kayfun wicking... there are a lot of tips and tricks in there.
Rayon: Better Flow/Flavor/Saturation/Nic Hit

Hmmmm... that's strange. The only time I get any unwanted throat hit is if the wicks are dry... haven't had any other weirdness out of it, myself. What is your nic level and pg/vg ratio?

Got my Kayfun packed at least as tight as the OPs coil with rayon and it just works. It looks like it shouldn't work at all, but it always does. I have mine packed so tight, I have to hold the coil in place with my thumb and pull the rayon through. If I don't hold the coil, it will just bend over and probably rip out from the screws. Yeah, its that tight and yeah it works great lol.

When the rayon is really tight, it seems to act like a porous solid material rather than a fluffy wick. Its hard and tight in the coil, but porous enough for juice to flow right in.

Exactly.... I was a die hard cotton fan for ages... And as one other poster mentioned, whenever I saw rayon mentioned I always turned the other cheek. The name alone made me think of "Nylon" and I just falsely assumed it a synthetic material of some sort and I just struggled wanting to try it for that reason...

I honestly don't remember what set me off to do it, but I ended up doing some research on it one day and found it's made from wood fibers... So off I went to buy a box and give it a go....

From the first hit I haven't looked back... I have no need for cotton in my life any longer. Rayon is just truly amazing...

The very first build I "knew" I had read you needed more than cotton... So I did pack it a little tighter... Even with that I was hooked, but I wasn't too sure of it's wicking ability over cotton... Sure it was a tad bit better... But nothing spectacular....

The purely by mistake I ended up with a very thick wad in a coil one day... I was in a hurry to get out the door and didn't want to fix it... I figured if I took it really easy and let it soak in between hits it would be ok until I could get back and fix it...

Well... Wasn't I surprised when it smashed the performance of my previous attempts.... So then I started playing around... and realized very quickly that this stuff performs at it's peak when it's really jammed in there pretty good... When I pull it through it's tight enough to be very hard to pull and "squeeks" as it goes through... Trim the tails to get them down to a reasonable size and viola!

I always imagined that one day, in the future we would have atomizers that operated much like fuel injection on an engine... That when firing the juice would be sprayed in a fine mist directly over the coils saturating and keeping them saturated for the entire vape... No matter how much heat it just ramped up the flow and kept the perfect saturation....

Little did I know we'll never have that.... Because we have rayon instead.... :D
