Just logged in and saw all the BEAUTIFUL RSM's everyone got... Congrats to those who have one on the way to them!!

Although I don't often 'participate' in the chat here, I do check the thread at least once a day to 'lurk and read' and I am subscribed to it as well ;)
I am on the wait list for batch 11, I believe, and don't PLAN on backing out...unless one goes up on the website that I like and am able to snag beforehand (ha,ha...fat chance of that happening). I don't mind the wait tho as I have been short on funds since Christmas and getting my work hours drastically cut, so this has given me time to put money aside each pay day in order to have it ready for 'my turn', lol.

BTW...I was wondering what kind of wood that was that Chet got his made from?

I can sort of understand people backing out as we all make decisions intuitively or impulsively pretty often. You might want it today but then who knows few weeks later? Maybe you find something else you like or decide to spend less $ etc. anything can happen.

But then I totally see cappy's frustration too. The system isn't working very smoothly, costing too much time and effort just to deal with all the PM's, emails, cancellations, taking pictures, posting on website, plus tons more. And it's also killing his big fun part to be really creative on designs too.

If I were you cappy, I'd just make whatever I want and give people on the list priority by their number to choose what they want to get. The longer they wait the earlier they'd get to choose before others on next batch. People can get carried on with their move-up number to next batch if there's nothing they want or what they want is taken by someone with earlier ticket number(That case, you can also make an identical one for that person next batch). Get people to sign up on email list so you can send them prior notice to show up during certain range of time(or a whole day) or they'll have to wait until next batch. When people show up let them choose more than one(if they want) in case someone with earlier ticket number comes later and take it.

Taking full customized orders is really nice of you. You can still offer with non-refundable deposit or something. But you do deserve some fun. I think you work too much with this system. Let's face it, how many RSMs have we seen that is totally one of kind compared to others? They're not THAT different even with full customized orders... I'm sure people will find what they want even without deciding parts themselves.

just my :2c:

Why would people order and then back out.....I don't see the sense in spinning your wheels.

Most likely they are not expecting a lead time on their order. Read Impulse Buy and instant Gratification is SOP these days. They should understand these are hand crafted from wood. Next they are hand build and assembled by a craftsman.

Less likely they find out something technical about them or they second guess what technical spec's they want.

It's very beautiful Chet! Congrats! :D
I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a nice RED, RED wood with black or almost black endcaps. I'm thinking that the Redheart will fit that choice and hoping that Cappy will have some available when my batch number comes up :D

Redheart with Gabon ebony? :)

Bumping for people who missed it;

Ahoy, good morning everyone, spent the last couple hours dealing with E-Mail & PMs.

There will be some changes concerning the ordering of RSMs, I am going to think the entire process over carefully and decide what is the best course of action I need to take to ensure I am able to continue making mods.

Trying to please people so much that I let the ship founder and sink is a course I need to steer away from and that is exactly where I am headed atm.

I would suggest if you are thinking of buying wood to not do that until our new course is set.

Cappy

For the short run yes. Please understand that from my point of view the batch lists have several bad affects for me.

I cannot innovate. Once I take an order I can no longer let creativity take hold. Remember when the mods used to have individual inlays, designs, edging and such? I would like to be able to occasionally offer a more unique mod again.

This batch had 14 people on the list, 3 cancelled when approached to pick wood, 6 cancelled after I had started or decided they did not want the mod after completion. Each batch I do has this problem, usually not this severe but it still happens. What a time sink the whole process has turned out to be.

Yes, Time!. Since I started taking pre-orders, the 2 week process has turned into a nearly 3 week process. I can only attribute the extra 4 or 5 days as lost to administration dealing with the pre-order process and the dozens and dozens of PMs and E-Mails needed to get the batch started, answer questions and the final batch disposition.

Arggg, I can go on talking about deadlines, stress, material management and such, but lets stop here.

I need to get back on track, for now I am putting the batch lists aside and getting back to the basics. Ya? Yarr!

Oh yes, I have people who are on a batch list that I wont even start for 4 months, what are the chances they will still even want a RSM? It's getting silly ....

You are an example of another benefit of this. You are number 38 I think on the waiting lists, probably 2 or 3 months down the road? But you have become a friend of the thread and people who are active on the thread will know before anyone else when I am putting up mods for sale and will have a big jump on everyone else and so reward the active people.

If you see one you like, simply buy it off the website, shoot me a E-Mail describing the engraving you would like me to put on it and I can do it after the fact. Simple :)

Cappy, Only you can place a value on your time. In the world of being a craftsman, as wells as a small business owner you have to set the course.

I might add something you may not know. The fed is also tracking pay pal and merchant payments for tax purposes.

Now before you figure that mess out. Can you tell me what mod's you have I can order that work with a tank :)

Cappy, I know you mentioned rent before.... is that for real?

I have a lot of stress as some of your fans can say manifest itself as being an .......

I am a small business owner with 2 employees, a wife and some others that need me to float them some from time to time.

Get a grip on cost....

You have to be honest with yourself... and the tax codes.

What is your overhead. You clearly have cost dedicated to this endevor...

While you likely do no have to carry inventory or worry about COGS. You do need to know your cost broken down in to the basics.

The only blue county in Texas!
Cappy - I love my RSM's and to be honest, my favorite is actually one you designed. I love the one I designed as well, but Blue is the coolest ever! Make your life easier - your mods are gorgeous. People will buy them!

Looks like there's still a Destroyer up for sale on the site. Mark-7 - Red Sky Mods
