I love burl. I understand that perfect pieces of burl are extremely hard to come by. Voids are to be expected. The teak I sent you wasn't stabilized, but I have have some mods that are stabilized. I am not a fan of the dyed stabilized woods, though some of them are really pretty. I like the natural look. One of the nice things about burl is it is generally extremely hard. Amboyna is gorgeous and I would love to see a mod made out of that. A exhibition grade piece the size you need could run upwards of 60 bucks though. I spent $40 on a set of scales.

It is pricey, but it is gorgeous. One of the worries I have when using burl, is often it is somewhat weaker than a hardwood and I don't know how I would be able to handle a warranty replacement using a hard to get or one of a kind wood. Perhaps I would have to limit the warranty to hardware only on specialized wood?

I think the body would be as strong, if not stronger than a normal hardwood. The door might be a bit more brittle due to the grain not being constant. I've thought about that. If something happens to it, I'd expect to have to pay for a new door. I considered ordering an extra bloodwood door when I ordered. :)

Well, I guess as I've made alot of mods in the last year and have yet to replace a single one It is a small concern. I've even only had one major repair when both end caps were broken and I was still able to put it all back together, guess I'm just paranoid about it.

I would need an idea of what dimensions you would need, and my choices for wood to contain such a big battery would be limited. I think I have some Black Cherry, Bocote, Leopardwood big enough, yellowheart too ... hmm, thats about it.

I would need the inside of the box to be 1 3/4" wide x 1 1/16" deep x 3" tall. Any wood would be fine by me.

The burl is rock hard. but because the grain doesn't run the length of the door, I assume it would be a little more prone to breakage. But no more than a door with a cross cut grain.
You did a spectacular job on Triton Cappy! I love it! :)

Very happy you like it. I am getting a small collection of different burls laying around, I will have to see what I can come up with by mixing and matching with traditional wood, see how people like it.

I am also cutting extra doors when I make mods, so the turnaround in most cases for sending in a mod for a new door would only be a couple days too methinks :)

Well, got alot done, but still have a full day of building mods tomorrow, so now looking at Monday evening before I can start posting the first of the finished mods, oh well.

Time to knock off fer the night too, arrrrrr

Doesn't sound too bad, perhaps you could PM me a sketch of what goes where. Feed bottle? Switch placement and stuff like that :)

It is definitely more pink than the Redheart on second glance, the Redheart is a real red in color, sometimes a bit orangish in patches. I went kinda heavy on the Redheart this batch as I detected alot of desire for the Redheart with Gabon Ebony end caps from talk on the thread.

Edit; I just took another look at the ones that look orange in the picture, and under a normal light they look just as red as the other ones in the picture. I am going to have to be careful to watch the angle of lighting when taking pics of them, arrr

OMG!!! I HAVE to have one of those Destroyers.
