long post, but i feel guilty and want to explain myself. i'm not a weirdo or a creeper, well maybe a little, but harmless. I am also a member of a photography forum. people ask how to improve their pictures, and people look at the settings which are encoded into the picture and are quickly able to tell you what settings are wrong and where you need to improve.

along with your camera settings, some newer cameras and most mobile devices (cell phones) capture the location as well.

if you are pulling pictures straight from your computer, all of the info that your camera is equipped to take in and is turned on (geo locating for iphone users) will be able to be seen by others. if you go through a third party photo sharing web site, the info diminishes. there is still some info available.

in the following photograph, a person was questioning their photography skills and or their camera. i copied the picture to my iphoto album and looked at the details so i could let them know how they could improve on their skills.

it even sounds creepy to me.

in the upper right hand corner, you can see where it shows the camera, the camera settings, the date and EXACT time it was taken. no harm no foul.

:)

Soooo short of getting a better camera and given the info off the photo please tell me how to improve. Its just a point and shoot  Who can screw that up.....or right me!

Well the problem you have is the .5 second exposure. THe shutter is open for 1/2 second. You can't hold your hands steady enough to get a sharp picture. THe camera moves during the exposure so the photo gets blurred.

Several ways to helpl

You could use flash. Flash will mitigate the long exposure.

You could shoot in brighter light. Brighter light will result in a faster shutter speed.

Use a tripod or some such devise to mount the camera on and use the self timer to fire the camera. This will keep the camera steady for the entire 1/2 second exposure. Using the self timer will stop the camera from moving when you press the shutter with your finger.

Many cameras now have image stabilization built in to help with long exposures but it does have its limits. 1/2 second is along time. Better cameras don't necessarily make better photos.

Hope this helps.

whether you had it an macro, or just turned it on and shot the picture. your shutter speed was set for a half a second. that is a pretty long shutter speed, (the opening and closing of the the shutter). your camera has to be pretty darn still to get a good picture at that speed. next time try setting your camera on something and keep your object still. adjust your focal length so that your camera can actually focus on the subject. like i mentioned before. put it in macro at no less than 2 inches from the subject, or auto mode at no less than 1 foot and zoom in, or put it in sports mode and this picture would of come out fine (sports mode adjust for movement and quickens your shutter speed). movement doesn't seem to be as fast as it really is, but a lot of movement happens in a half second. i dont recall where my camera is to show definitive differences, so i will go with what i already have and a perfect object, my baby girl Abbie.

example; my shutter opened for 1/13 of a second. there isn't much you can do here, the iphone 3gs doesnt calculate for movement. so you get an ugly blurr.

in this image, you'll notice that the speed is a little quicker (1/15), but the movement was still too fast and in that amount of time, this is how much movement happened.

in this shot, i was able to make the shutter speed a lot quicker (1/800 of a second) by putting it in sports mode to capture movement.

in this photo, i was able to manually adjust my speed (1/1250) to get a more crisp picture.

in this picture, your camera is light years ahead of mine, but using its features, i can still get great photos if used correctly. notice i was 5 inches away from the truck. and a very slow shutter speed.

and just to get an idea of what you are looking at in the pic above, its a toy tow truck.

<<pauses for a quick breath....
i hope that helped a little.

ahhhh. much better. other than playing around with your lighting, your focal point is good.

Wow what a difference that makes!!! All I got is a crappy android phone that was outdated about 3 weeks after I got it lol. No matter what you do with mine it still takes mediocre pictures.

At least yours aren't purple

Wow, what great information. I don't understand any of it! If I get a new phone with another crappy camera, I will know who to ask what those buttons mean

So after a little research, it would seem that when I traded a high-end hybrid for my tiny little Reo... I wound up owning a piece of Reo history?

I believe that this little guy is a first-run mini?

The first run minis had milling marks on the outside, very fine lines. Here...I just took a picture for you of a first run mini and a newer mini, both anodized. The one on the left is the newer mini. The one on the right is the one with the very fine milling marks. Hopefully you can see them. Also, green wasn't available in the first run. So my guess it is 2nd...which was late 2010. I have that same green mini. :)
*edit...I mispoke...the first run was 25 polished minis, no anodizing. The ones with the milling marks are 2nd run. The green was a color that came after the 2nd run.

I can neither confirm nor deny that. However, that is a BEAUTIFUL green!
