Hey, Tammy girl!! We have missed you something fierce!! It's so good to see your smiling face again :)

Up until a couple of days ago when we had a really good rain, it was been pretty dry here, too. We still need more rain, though. Up around Bartow they've been burning fire lines or fire break lines or whatever they're called. On damp, humid mornings, when I went outside, the air smelled like a stale fireplace.

Interesting about the 'gator bite. That would certainly get your attention!!

Hugs and <smoooooches>

The smoke is so bad here, it's coming into homes! We're being told to change our HVAC filters every other day because of health risks from it!

It's been a big mess! Severe drought conditions are not only making the fires worse but they are bringing some awful big snakes up around my pool and in my yard. I killed the biggest cotton mouth mocassin in my jasmine by my pool, he was just looking for water but with a grandson at 2 dogs at large in the yard, I couldn't take any chances. This thing was mad, he couldn't get to the pool and when I walked up on him, he slapped the ground with his tail.......that is what got my attention!

About 3 weeks ago, there was an alligator UNDER a car at the hospital here. When the person went to get into their car, the gator bit them in the leg!

Terrible, terrible, here. Folks homes are being threatened and lost by fires, the critters are being displaced and suffering too and we don't see any relief any time soon!

My new (used) Reo Woodvil courtesy of ECF user meems :)

I can't believe how perfectly it fits in my Kensington iPhone holder - just the right amount of pressure to hold it in place, I don't even have to force it in and it hasn't popped out even driving through Montreal's pothole ridden streets!

I've been working on something a bit different for a door for my Grand.

This is brass with an engine-turned, aka "jeweled" finish.

My brother is a machinist by trade. He took my standard door, made a print, and milled a door out of brass shim stock. He finished it by using a brite stick on an end mill and polished each swirl into the finish.

All in all, I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's certainly a different look. I think he might try it again now that the print is made and there is a working prototype.

You can see it got dinged up a bit. That happened when the magnets I used--had to go a bit bigger because of the weight, got stuck in the holes, but wouldn't fit quite flush. The 3/16s magnets are NOT QUITE 3/16s. It's not as apparent in person as it is in the photos. The brass is almost as scratch prone as the aluminum.

The finish is also not quite symmetrical, as allowances had to be made for the thin strip on the side of the squonk hole.

My brother was impressed with the work that goes into the REOs. He's always hated smoking--had asthma as a kid, so he made me this since I've been analog free for 6 months. Just thought I'd share my "one-off" Grand door.
