You definitely don't want the coils snug to the posts. I pull them out closer to the airhole
Hi Alice--good points you bring up. I'm finding that the dirty, gritty, dusty, mucky conditions I work in as a logger do not result in as much muck in the juice well since I've switched to the RM2 simply because the RM2 fills most of the juice well. It's really relatively clean at night when I get home. Just another peripheral advantage to the RM2.Absolutely adore my VVGs, too, but one of many, many reasons to have the mechanicals is for dirty, dusty, gritty, mucky, muddy, greasy/oily, wet (take your picks) times (most all much a part of my existance and work). And with the advent of RM2 and so much wonderful info about we can make our mechanicals into virtual VVs.
BTW... Many things I adore about VV REOs but two prominent reasons.... well three... I love the side button. I can use the same coil for all day and evening vaping voltage and then wake up to same REO, same coil I went to sleep with (frequently sleeping with it in my hand - I'm one of those rare peeps who rarely moves during sleep except to turn head position - but I don't usually sleep very many hours without waking up) and then, on waking, lower the voltage a bit till throat "toughens up" without having to do anything other than slight wheel adjustment. Other major thing I love is size for relaxing time (when relatively clean person and environment - major word "relatively") as it is much easier for my not too large, female hands, with arthritis and some loss of fine motor control due to nerve damage in neck, to grasp and control. I still have trouble grasping them when I get too relaxed in hot tub.
Feisty Alice

Alright Drifter decide tonight was the night to man up and coil this bad boy LOL
Might have used a little to much cotton .Not sure yours seemed better but pretty good for first try I thinkCoils could be tighter I know.Went with few wraps less I think 9 or 10 but its vaping great!
How did I do ? Dont hold back![]()
Yea forgot cotton would expand quite a bit but other than needing little more juice its vaping very niceVash, looks great bro. Coil looks masterfully built. Hard to tell about wick but less is more with cotton. If its vaping great, I'd say vape on man

maybe a silly question buuuuut where did you get that blunt tip tool with the hole in the end?
Wizard labs. I used a 14 ga for the tutorial. If you wanna kick it up (down actually) a notch, use a 16 gauge and go micro

thank you very much, you have managed to be helpful in every post ive made so far lol. is there a thread that explains how the different wick materials, wire ga and wrapping effects the ohm it ends up at? if you cant tell, im a total noob here, havent actually built a coil yet but i enjoy tinkering so im looking forward to it

Build the coil so it lines up with the air hole. An o-ring can be added under the cap to adjust air hole height and position, say near one full turns worth. That will raise the hole and give some leeway as the where the air hole is in relation to the coil.So after reading multiple posts and viewing various pics, should the coil be above the hole where juice shoots up or a little to the side? Also how are you guys positioning the cotton wick. A little in the hole or more towards the side?
I'm still playing around with it and trying to figure out a good position. And the hole on the cap should be directly in the center of the coil correct?
I just built my first micro coil for my Protank with your tutorial: 8-9 wraps of Kanthal A1 32 gauge wire came out at 1.7 ohms.
The blunt tip I used was a bit too small (1mm diameter, I think). Next time I'll do 10-12 wraps.
Flavor and vapor production are better, though not as good as I expected. I think that's because of the quality of the cotton I used as well as the number of wraps.
Anyway, thank you very much super_X_drifter! Your tutorial is one of the most useful ones I have found here in ECF
