Roll mill for coil wire?

Just wondering if anyone has tried a "roll mill" to change the shape of Kanthal wire. Jewelry makers use this machine to turn round wire into "decorative"wire. I would think this might improve the performance of coils much like twisting wire to give more surface area. Might be a stupid idea but if it worked it could be pretty cool. A new roll mill starts at around $175. Wish i had one around to try. Any input? Thanks. Jim

You can buy Kanthal A1 in flat or "ribbon"... a whole lot of it for $175. ;-)

Yep, thats what I had in mind. So ribbon wire is already available. I guess you could mount a corrugated presser roll.. But i don't know if zigzag wire would be a help or a hindrence.

I could see it used to flatten twisted or Clapton wire.

Why would you do that.. It would defeat the purpose of twisted and wrapped wire.
