Gave up for today, I broke tap lol stainless is hard to tap at that size lol. Would brass be safe? And the claromizer bottom doesn't seem to give me a press fit slides right in, any help?

Well I just got in some SS 2-56 push inserts .125" in dia. They fit perfectly in the neg hole in the scubagen. Problem is they fit perfectly, need to be a a very snug fit. So the holes would need to be .115-.120 or I add material to the insert so when the screw is put in it spreads the bottom like an anchor bolt.

Got them at mcmaster-carr, they are ez-loc inserts made for plastic.

Would a couple of strands of copper wire around the outside of the insert give you enough squeeze for a press fit? The copper should collapse and deform enough to work.. Maybe

What's a good starting point to set the ohms of my coil for 5v? I have one wick set at 4.5, and it still glows as soon as I hit the button!? I'm starting to think the Genisis atty doesn't like high voltage, but I know several of you vape with VV mods. I just got this today, so I will keep messing with it.....

If he had used those portable holes from Acme he could just re-size it but to late for that now.

As this is still in the prototype stage, perhaps just a smaller hole.

Nice one Gummy. I had completely forgotten about portable holes. I should watch more cartoons. :toast:

I tend to agree that it doesn't do well at high voltage. Unless you like the molten steel flavor.

I have been vaping with 2 16340s in a SS GGTS... I found that a 4.0 coil is good when I used Nichrome and really carbonized the wick... Like 6 or 7 times with VG instead of 3 times. Then make sure your leads to the coil are a short as possible... Almost touching the posts with the wick. I have also been vaping with two Cr123s in a Precise P-18 (Just sold it on the Forum)... There again I ended up going with the Nichrome. The Kanthal coil just got too hot, too fast. Using 32 Ga with both coils and both types of resistance wire... I am getting plenty of vapor with the Nichrome at that voltage. Any other suggestions out there?

See, I would have thought that since kanthal has a higher heat resistance....too hot too fast would never be an issue....

I don't know but the Kanthal would just go red after about 3 seconds. Up to that point the vapor was immense and good but after that it just got that nasty burnt flavor. The coil didn't burn out or short it would just go bright red after the 3 seconds. I don't know that it just vaporized all the available eliquid at the top fo the coil that quickly or what. But the nichrome thus far has been doing better. I really have to chain vape hard to get it to do that.

As an afterthought I had one Kanthal coil that began that way and after about 2 days it settled in and produced great. Without that problem. But I always want to screw around with the wick and coil. Perhaps the wick just got wnough "stuff" on it to retain more eliquid or was better insulated from the coil. I have not had the patience with any wick/coil that had kanthal since. I just ended up trying Nichrome at 32 Ga and it seemed to work better. Go figure... Has anyone else played around at the higher voltages?

that looks like it would work, we have silver solder at work. i can solder on it, enough for a press fit. or solder it straight to the scuba. still contemplating the brass tho. and shrink wrap it so it can be somewhat protected from the juice. idonno, i have headache from ideas just swirling in my head.

Tinning the insert would be nice, but they are SS, so need the special flux. Copper strands are made of copper and not good in the juice. How about a strand of aluminum wire hooked under the bottom and coming up the sides in the shape of a 'U'?

Or expand the tabs a bit before inserting (press fitting)?
