Ive been reluctant to use the "pancake" wicking since i got the Serpent, simply because i have been using a different method for over a year on another tank.
Few days ago i wicked two tanks with Ryaon using pancake wiking method and the results so far have been very positive.
As some of you may know, Rayon can be challenging to work with when it comes to molding a wick and placing it on a very small deck on Serpent tank. Furthermore, you have to cut the tails on Rayon at 45 degree angle, at just the right length. Which is time consuming it self; its like trying to perform a surgery on a frog in a 8th grade science class.
Than place it all nice and pretty on to the deck, in hopes that it doesn't get misaligned when you screw on the tank. But, nice and pretty is just not possible.
As you screw the tank down, unscrew the JFC at the same time to your best ability to not disturb the position of the wick. It will take some practice but youll get the hang of it.
End result.
No need to close JFC when filling the tank and there is no leaking.
p.s.
Dont forget to lube with a bit of juice both O rings on the top cap before you screw it down. The O rings will last longer do to lubrication and top cap will be much easier to screw it down shut. Dont use force. If it doesnt feel like Astroglide smooth, then lube the O rings some more.
