Ok, so I finally did it. I finally e-smoked in an area where traditional smoking is banned. Today, I smoke in a diner. It was surprisingly uneventful. In fact, I don't even think anyone noticed. Even the waitress that came up to us simply remarked, "it smells kinda nice actually." I guess the thought of smoking in a public place is much more frightening than actually doing it. I think I will be alot less hesitant to pull out my e-cigarette in a public place where smoking is not permitted now. :D So, where have you smoked that you normally could not? Where you frightened to do it initially? What about now?

STANDING OVATION.

Heck, I'm still hiding the thing in a cupped hand and taking a sip in the aisle of a grocery store when no one but video cameras are looking. I fear if an anti-tobacco zealot saw me, I'd be pummeled to death before I could gasp "It's not really smoking ..."

TB..I have to do it...I want the public to be aware and not afraid of it....Always use the 3 words..No Fire..No Smell...No Ashes....Thank God I am in the Third World... :p

I'm puffing it more openly on campus, though not indoors. I think my biggest fear is that some square is going to think i'm getting high and will call the police on me and then I'll have to start explaining myself, not to mention submit to a search. In fact, i was showing a clerk at a gas station the e-cigarette and she said, "what is that? To smoke weed with?" Well, there you go. No one is really going to assume your smoking cigarettes really. They're going to think you're a pothead trying to get stoned before you go to the video store to rent Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas so you can watch it..........ON WEED MAN!!!!

That's a legitimate concern. Look up vaporizers and you'll soon discover Volcano. It's for "herbal" inhalation, but is the pot head's ultimate wet dream.

I'm sure there are weed lovers sitting around now calculating how well a marijuana extract would vape in an e-cigarette and what problems that would give police trying to separate those dope desperadoes from us lesser-evil nicotine addicts.

Certainly to the uninitiated I think it probably does look like a weed-device (or worse!). Hopefully e-cigs will be a familiar sight before long and we no longer have to worry about it.

My technique is to hold my (pen-style) e-cig by the end so the red light doesn't show and take one bug puff and hold it. There is very little left by the time you exhale, so no worrys about being ejected from public places.

I'm from Brasil,

Here we don't have much laws prohibiting smoke in public places, you can smoke in the restaurant, pub and some work places, but can't do it in the Bank, cinema or mall.

I always smoke my analog cigarette and my e-cigarette in public, and the only thing I hear is "oh nice, what is this", and that's all.

I'm smoking more my e-cig and less my cigarette, and the benefits are awesome.

I like to drink beer, and next day with analog cigarettes are the worst, but with eletronic smoke they are very good, no more headache, no more bad taste in mouth, it is awesome.

I love this thing,

Max

I have been using an electronic cigarette for only a week.
I went shopping with the wife in asda (walmart in US) and we decided to have a coffee and cake in the restaurant. It took a bit of courage but I decided to have a few puffs. The place was packed and we were sitting pretty well in the centre so a lot of people as well as staff saw me. I was expecting to be challenged by someone, but no, not even the staff bothered. I hope my experience will encourage others to try thiers in public places as this is the way the cigarette will be accepted.
The electronic cigarette is a wonderful invention which will hopefully enable me, eventually, to quit the habit after 40 years.

Alas that wont happen in my town. We call this place the PC capital of the world. No matter what I say there will be a host of people offended that I would indulge my nico habit in the open.

I get a real kick out of smoking in class at college. Every professor has a different reaction. I was in class the other day and I just pulled out my e-cigarette and started puffing..The professor, an older, tall, lanky guy with a long nose peering over his reading glasses looks up and his mouth drops. He stops his lecture and just stares at me. I stared back. The class got quiet and everybody turned in my direction. I just sat there, staring back at the professor until he says "get that out of here!". He just did know how to react, wasn't sure what to do. It was very funny hahaha

I mainly use my ecig at these location and I get tremendous response from people. I can't count the number of times I have to say "Google e-cigarette"
I never gotten a rude response from employees. Usually people are very apologetic for bothering me in the first place after I explain to them that I've been using it to quit smoking and I haven't smoked in 5 months(which is true).
After I highlight how cost-effective and less harmful it is to your health people are sold! I always insist in highlighting though that if you're not addicted to nicotine I DO NOT RECOMMEND picking up the ecig. The only time I get annoyed is when people try to shoot down the ecig as. "too weak" or "too expensive."
I actually had a girl who said "oh but I smoke regular cigarettes not for the nicotine I am addicted to the other chemicals in it like cyanide. I had to laugh it off :|
The only demographic that makes me uncomfortable to use my ecig around are high schoolers. I've gotten looks and pointing from some of them and some laughter. You have to just not care I guess.
