By "Z" i meant a coil that each end of the coil is on a different side of the posts. The coil runs between the posts not on one side. Yes, i run a regular wick through the coil as well. I must say that i am not running that setup now because it was almost too effective. The vape for me was almost too thick. I will run it that way from time to time just to have a change.

I got my Hornet last week. I'm using 11 wraps of 30 gauge kanthal for about 2.6-2.8 ohms with two cr123 3.7s batteries.
I tastes amazing...Sorry it's a bit blurry.

I think I found my new favorite coil setup for the A7.

Ridiculously low resistance coil (1 ohm is very low for me, I usually like 1.8-2 with cotton), fixed between posts. Coil has to be sparse rather than with touching loops.

Instead of cotton, a very short oxidized SS wick through the coil. My wick doesn't stick out of the coil at all, so it's *really* short.

Thick cotton ball wick laying over the coil, with ends hanging into the bottom of the atomizer to feed the tiny SS wick.

Advantages:
1. If you do let the cotton burn by accident, you can replace it without any tools, since the cotton doesn't need to be fed through the coil.
2. You can dry burn the SS
3. The amount of vapor and flavor is very nice

I've tried this setup before, but with my usual 1.8-2 ohm coils. Somehow presence of SS wick makes it feel a lot cooler than with silica or cotton wick. I learned that from my genesis. Like if I used 1ohm coil with just cotton, the throat hit would be too much for me, and the wick would burn within an hour.

Did I mention low maintenance?

i'm thinking after watching Rob's video is to just wrap the wire around a cotton ball strand as if it were a length of silica...

Odds are that if the guy who makes your mods does it a certain way, it probably works........

Rewicking might be an issue though..... whatever, its still better than a carto.

True, but in my experience a strand of cotton ball thread is not nearly stiff enough on its own to wrap wire around it. Its also difficult to wrap the wire loose enough to account for the cotton swelling. You could try holding the cotton along side a paperclip and wrapping both together, then removing the clip once installed.

Rob's method does indeed work well with silica, but I think cotton balls prefer pre-coiled wire. But hey, let us know how it goes for you.

That's what I used to do with all my cotton/bamboo/hemp wicks because they're just too floppy to handle otherwise. Plus, they have to have room to swell....especially the cotton ball wick. I use a darning needle instead of a paperclip, but same difference. After awhile I realized that wrapping the coil first then inserting the thread/cotton was much easier. If it's too fat to go through the coil, then it's too fat to wick well. It's sorta my "gauge" for how much to use. :)

Hah! here's the link-link and it's the same thread as we've been chatting in . .. . (not this one)

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/396468-god-i-hate.html?highlight=god

I was looking at that just now. It's like 3:30 and I'm up vaping, kids are still up xboxing and these threads from what seems like decades ago are money :). Allot has happened in the last several months synergetically speaking. I like it.

Holy sh_it batman, in about 2 weeks I'll be smoke free for a year :). Don't you have a major milestone coming up too?
