So I come out on the weekends to visit my dear old Mom at her farm.

We were going to "Dad's" in town for a bit of fish fry, but it was too busy to wait (in the country? WHAA?) So being as I've been up since 3am and Mom's too tired for much we decide to do old school simple. Boiled and buttered Egg Noodles with boiled hot dogs.

While we are waiting for the boiling and the cooking I decided to clean out my tanks and coil and wick them fresh. Now Mom knows I've been into vaping for a long time but I usually bring my gear bag over with everything mostly setup.

So she sits down at the table while I'm coiling and starts asking me all sorts of questions, why this, why that, why does this do this..etc.

I patiently go through the questions while I'm working and finished each in turn. (questions and the RBA's)

She totally reminded me of a brand new vaper. Full of questions and curiosities, and it reminded me a lot of here, but in real life.

For a little perspective Mom was a smoker of over 50 years. Her choice was quit or die, she still misses her analog pals to this day. She has relatively advanced COPD and Emphysema, multiple stints in her arteries, extreme shortness of breath, spots on her lungs...etc..etc. We have Oxygen machines in her house so we can refill small tanks, and big tanks for emergency long term power outages (at the farm it happens fairly frequently).

It just got me to thinking. I smoked for over 20 years and vaping helped me transition to something new, and Mom's enthusiasm borders on that feeling of, "If only it where there for me" kind of feeling.

And now the news of the potential ban (and lets face it Cigalikes are hardly passable for most as a choice)

Wow, getting totally off track... Anyhow!!! At he end of all this Mom says to me, "I use to work at Motorola building boards and soldering - I think I can build these coils for you and sell them for money because it looks so easy" :D

Great story, OP. Thanks for posting it.

I don't know how old Mom is. I do know that I am 66. When my daughter and I first started vaping, almost 4 years ago, I was the skeptic. Stress and cravings started making going back to smoking more and more desirable. My daughter had heard about ecigs, so we started doing some research. Personally, I did not see how these little electronic thingies could replace cigarettes.

My daughter finally broke down and got a couple of Blu disposables for us to try. Was I ever wrong about ecigs. No more desire to "light up". Almost 4 years later, we are quite content with the equipment and nicotine/pg/vg levels we are using, and extremely happy to still be ex-smokers.

By the way, the person who is more or less in charge of doing the research and deciding which vendors and equipment to use? You guessed it. The confirmed skeptic, who was so very sure that vaping would not work to keep us away from cigarettes. The daughter and her boyfriend, both much more tech savvy than this Granny, both seem to be quite content to let me have the ECF membership, do the research, and decide what we use for hardware and eliquids.

We "oldies but goodies" do have our uses, after all.

Forgot to mention, we had already been cigarette free for around 6 years before we started vaping. We both quit cold turkey. It is now almost 10 years since either of us last smoked, and, thanks to vaping, the desire to start using cigarettes again is very much a thing of the past.

I guess I did leave that out! My apologies! Mom turned 77 in September. Even with all her health issues she still pushes the envelope! Definitely not a quitter (well except cigarettes) She wanted to try E-Cigarettes, but she has too much going on with her lungs already so she's decided to stay clear of anything that could potentially irritate her lungs further. Minor correction for the original post. I meant to type 50 years not 40 years of smoking... speaking of which I'll go edit that thing :p
