Your suspicion sounds reasonable if they drop below 3.2, or tripping the protection circuit of the battery when you go to fire it. Is there any battery rattle when you shake it? The + contact could be too weak to deliver amps.

You have to use short cap w/ flat top 350s

At any rate protected bats are not recommended and may not work.

Yep, the sigelei won't fire with a battery voltage of 3.2V or lower although it will boot up and show you battery voltage.

I couldn't use the tall cap (15mm) with 18350 either. The spring was too short and made very loose contact with the 18350. Use either the short cap as Jeremy wrote or stretch the spring for the tall cap 2mm or so. Using the short cap is the better choice because it will reduce overall length of the sigelei with 18350, but only with 18350.

Ah~ my fingers tingle with joy, no more vamo grindcore threads.

There's no rattle I just doublechecked because I forgot if I used the short cap before. Still the same issue, unit turns on but doesn't fire. I suppose I'll just get myself a pair of Efests to make it pocket friendly. On the vamo with these cigfire batteries I also noticed they don't even allow me to get over 5-6watts or so.

My v5, battery and charger all showed up today, looks great. Very excited. I'll probably be asleep before the battery finishes charging though so I'll have to wait to try it until tomorrow. Looks beautiful though.
Sounds great! I'm guessing your V5 has Sigelei logos as all of the newest production V3 and V5 seem to. Did it arrive with two battery caps?

No reason for concern at all. We are seeing variations in the number and placement of brand names on the units. This has no effect on authenticity. If the display says Sigelei on boot-up, it's a Sigelei. I haven't seen reports of any clones yet.

How about the cell phone charger accessory? Any logos there? Most photos show this accessory to be silver in color although I've seen photos of red units.

The cell phone charger adapter is silver (with a keychain and a hook on it) but it's a slightly different silver then the mod itself, for lack of a better term the mod is shinier. I'll post a picture of the whole thing once my cell phone gets some charge into it, it had a long day. Also, even though I haven't turned it on yet, the screen LOOKS to be perfectly centered. I've read some complaints that it was crooked. (or maybe that happens after some wear). And for the record its the flat top.

Sigelei has improved QC after many complaints about crooked displays. Actually, the new display mounts found on recent production V3s and V5s reduce the possibility of crooked screens quite a bit. Thanks for your patience in answering my questions. We are all pretty curious about the V5s. Photos would be great when you get the time! :2cool:

You guys made me go and check my V3 for a top cap that unscrews. I think I bought the Sigelei in late summer and mine doesn't screw off, either. I didn't try putting it on my vise with the rubber adapter jaws and using channel locks. I"m not that curious!

Maybe mine is one that is press fit. I don't have a need for eGo threads at the moment, but I do have to use an adapter for the TS3/Evod style tanks. Anyone have a history file link for dates and variations and identifying marks to see what I have? I know it's a V3, for what that's worth.

It's easy to identify V3s with the removable top cap from the earlier version V3s. The photo here shows what to look for.

The V3 with removable top cap is shown on top. There is a flange from the 510/eGo connector assembly visible between the top cap and the main body.

That flange is shown again, this time with the V3 top cap removed. The new one-piece stainless steel 510/eGo threading is shown.

The two Sigelei V3s shown above have different firmware versions. This accounts for spelling changes in the menu and maybe some other changes yet to be discovered in V3. So far two firmware versions are identified for V3: SI V1.1 and SI V1.5a. Version SI V2.0a seems to be unique to V5.

How to display the firmware version:

The next post tells how to return to normal operation (post #896)

buzzkill657 reports and photographs the first V3 with removable top cap on October 18, 2012. Photo shows one-piece SS 510/eGo?

JeremyR photos show internal component improvements on a V3 with removable top cap. The display mounting is different as is a half-round support for the circuit boards.

The use of Sigelei logos are all over the place. Some showed up in Europe during the summer. New V3s with removable top caps may or may not have logos. If they have logos, the placement may differ. All V5s seem to have Sigelei logos.

Any1 had use the phone charger for real? Hell i prefer my phone dead and my mod alive

I could see it being a useful feature in some hypothetical emergency, but if I were given the option to pay less and not even have that feature, I don't think I would bother. It looks like the idea is you leave the that cap on and you can just hook it on places or keys or something, but I would be worried about damaging the threading.

I did the fire hold while inserting the battery and mine is V 1.1. 5 more fire button presses and I get atomizer resistance (which was 9.9 ohms because I didn't have an atty installed).

yzer, the second pic you posted that showed the end cap removed would be a way to use the Evod or TS3 without the adapter if there was a trim ring that screwed over the threads to cover them. If I don't use the adapter to raise the threads, I get terribly hard and restricted airflow, almost to the point of not being able to produce vapor at all. With the adapter, it's all good.

I wouldn't use the phone charge feature except when I had the choice of calling or vaping. I'd be worried that my remaining charge would be depleted. That's just me. If I'm in the car, I have a USB charger cable. In my truck there's a 120v inverter AC socket in the dash as well as USB ports. I probably should keep my spare charger, a Trustfire TR-001, in the glove box.

The cell phone charger could be useful. You don't need to fully charge a cell phone if all you need is an emergency call or one or two calls. The battery on my small dumb phone is 1100mAH, same as an IMR 18490/18500. Also to be considered with the V5 attributes are the battery charge indicator that's visible when firing and puff counter. V5 has a different OLED display from the V3. In November and December I was seeing V3 and V5 prices within a few dollars of each other so even if you don't like one of the V5 features the others may be worth the buy.
