The Beyond Vape Spire is a nice APV but I would not consider it the zenith of Zmax development, not by any means.
The Spire is equipped with electronics that are equivalent to the Sigelei Zmax V3. It falls behind in functionality when compared to the Sigelei Zmax V5.
- The Spire does not display two lines of information when fired like the V5.
- The Spire will not display battery charge state in addition to wattage/voltage when fired.
- The Spire will not display a puff counter when fired like V5.
- The Spire will not display current like the Sigelei V5.
- The Spire does not include a puff timer.
- The Spire will not charge a cell phone like the Sigelei V5 will.
On the plus side for the Spire the stainless steel version has a different tube than the Sigelei V3 and V5. On an aesthetic basis you may like this or you may not![]()
. The gap between tube sections is different because the two tube sections are different in length from the Sigelei V3 and V5. The stainless steel Spire features a brass tube section that is pretty or fancy, depending on your point of view. The threading on the Spire is considered to feel smoother than that found on the Sigelei tubes
. However, there is no evidence that the Spire tube threading will function any better or last any longer than the threading on the Sigelei V3 or V5
.
Spire has top cap vent holes but late production V5s have top cap slotting.
Consider the finish quality of any SS tube mod. Brushed SS shows the least wear over time. Polished SS will dull and show scratches relatively quickly. Polished finishes are fingerprint magnets. Coated SS like gunmetal will wear off pretty fast
. The only color finish that compares in durability to the brushed SS of the V3 and V5 is the heat treated "rainbow" or "oil slick" finish
.
If I wanted a Spire I'd go for the SS version, not gunmetal. Then I would yank out the V3 electronics and replace it with V5 electronics. Before installing the V5 board I'd modify that with an Omron switch and maybe a board spacer or extra glue.
Regardless, I wouldn't consider vapor quality of the V3 to be any better than that from a V5. However, the additional features of the V5 make vaping more pleasurable, convenient and efficient.
The Spire is still for sale from Beyond Vape.
Ah Yzeer Your Crashing our Spire Lovefest....when i drove /collected Lincolns , i bought my first and only Bill Blass Edition (a 1980 MK6) , was it my daily driver? no.........Is the Spire a daily user For me , No..........will it last longer than a V3/V5, hell if i know........but if you actually owned and used one you would see what we are talking about...No, it doesn't have the Puff Counter, Puff Timer/ Cellphone Charger/ Mp3 player
like the V5.......but in the real world who really used that anyway?.......I Love the Functionality of the V3 and the V5, have a dozen of them and have Gifted twice that many to new vapers.............I guess my point is ; for the Sig Z Aficionado its a Unique 1st Cousin and worthy of having....... My 2 cents
In my world, a puff counter is very useful for keeping track of battery condition. When I start to get 30% less puffs off a battery than I did when it was new then I know its time to send the battery to the recycle bag. I like to able to see wattage, puffs and battery charge state every time I fire the device. I may be a Sigelei Zmax aficionado but that doesn't mean I'm automatically part of the the Smok or Beyond Vape parade, too. Any APV on my vaping shelf is there for everyday use if needed. I don't buy shelf queens just to have a collection because I'm probably more likely to collect Pokemon chips than APVs. Sorry, that's just me.Ah Yzeer Your Crashing our Spire Lovefest....when i drove /collected Lincolns , i bought my first and only Bill Blass Edition (a 1980 MK6) , was it my daily driver? no.........Is the Spire a daily user For me , No..........will it last longer than a V3/V5, hell if i know........but if you actually owned and used one you would see what we are talking about...No, it doesn't have the Puff Counter, Puff Timer/ Cellphone Charger/ Mp3 player

I keep all of the IMRs for vaping in strict rotation but each size has it's own rotation group. The nine 18500/18490's get the lion's share of use. Each group has a mix of older and newer batteries. Every time I buy a set of something like four 18490's I find that two or three of them will show a noticeable drop in capacity after about 250 charge cycles. These batteries will show capacity drops within a few weeks of each other. The fourth battery may act like the Energizer bunny and keep going and going.
I don't have any use for Li-ion batteries for anything except vaping at this time. So when they loose 30% capacity: they go to recycling. The other rechargeable batteries that I use a lot are Eneloop NiMH with some LiPos for hobby use. Eneloop AAs are a favorite of mine. Good for up to 2100 charge cycles.
I am the proud father of a new Spire thanks to vapieDan....Dan, you are the man, Thanks!!!!
