Crap. Shoulda held onto the CE2 I had that broke. I tossed it, never even considered that I could have used the rope. Maybe I'll cannibalize one to try it....durn things break all the time anyway and I'm sick of getting juice baths when they do, LOL. I hate that I have to treat them like they're delicate glass. I stuff my Ego's into my pocket, into my purse, or whereever I can find to stash it when I need my hands, and those things just break if you breath on them hard....

I pop my needle plates out with a small glasses screwdriver. To get it back in, I put the needle plate on a tank, and use the tank to push it in. I noticed that the plate wants to go in a certain way, so if the tank doesn't go in all the way to seat, I turn the tank with the needle plate a little bit, and push again. At some point it just clicks in, and all is good. A locking pair of forceps would be nice. I'll have to see if I can get a pair....

I've now replaced about 5 wicks with my silicon rope and PTB replacements. Each one is a little better as I fine-tune the size of the PTB square and length of the rope piece. All draw pretty good, and have good flavor. Even the ones I forget to burn first, LOL.

Congrats Vicky on avoiding over 5000 analogs. Way to go!!

I too have changed a few eGo-T's wicks with the older CE2 wicks, but have yet to try the new thick wick CE2-r5. Will do so pretty soon though, once I get back into my eGo-T's.

I've been using Mega Smart Cart 2.0's lately and find them just as easy to fill, taste way better (not muted) and don't leak. I've gone through half a dozen so far and I can't fault them.

I've got 4 new eGo-Tank attys and about 20 carts waiting to get back in the game, so I better start using them again. Before the 808 Vortex's turn up that is. :)

Yeah Vicky, the Mega Smart Carts don't have the plate and needle wick setup. They have a small piece of white 'fluval'? as the conduit from the tank to the atomizer bridge. No burn so far for me. I've put over 20mls through each of the Mega's and they just ask for more. I've got a few other new models to try and these things won't let me. I got some v2.0 from Gotvapes and some v1.0 here in Oz, where they are called T-Rex Tanks and Atomizers.

Hey guys, glad to see so many of you are finding success with this mod. After all my initial frustrations, i knew I had to share my solution. I've had to do this to every atty I've bought (5 total) because they all leaked on me. This mod has solved the leak every time and IMO does produce better flavor than the original wick.

As a note, several people have been complaining about a burnt or chemical taste. I've found that the cause of this is almost always from too tight of a wick not letting enough juice thru resulting in a dry or almost dry burn which tastes like crap. Just redo your wick with a little less PTB or silica and it should improve.

For some reason I have not been getting updates from this thread even though my subscription is set to immediate notifications. I've been busy anyways. I got a new job up north so the next month is going to be crazy.

I was going to do a V2.0 thread, but I just don't have time now and I'm wondering if it's worth it since everyone seems to be getting the hang of it and there's already been a lot of great feedback posted on this thread. Perhaps someone can get a Moderator to make this one the sticky. There's at least half a dozen other people here who have agreed this would make a good sticky. Perhaps in the future I'll redo this for v2.0, but I just don't have time right now.

Mod works as advertised :) I switched over to tanks from standard atty's because I got sick of fiddling with them, messing with wicking material, and losing juice instead of smoking it. I managed to destroy one of my tank atty's after i accidentally straightened out the coil... whoops - but I did everything as explained in your write up and it worked perfect. IMHO - wicks better than whatever they use in it to begin with. Thanks for the writeup!

Could I pay someone who can make these to make them for me? I get frustrated easily so I would have a lot of trouble getting the thickness right. For some reason I am not good at things like this; thus the reason for frustration. I don't have a lot of money so I can pay for the materials and some for the time to do it, but not a lot.

I could use these pretty badly as I have been having trouble with the original wicks that come with the atomizer. If the plates are necessary to the process, I could send the ones I have to the person helping me.

How do you get the needle plate out with a small screwdriver. Mine is so hard to get off with needle nose pliers that I have destroyed some trying to get them off. I cant see how you can hook the screwdiver on the plate to pull up or what ever you do. Help

Hey,

first of all, thanks for the great thread, and sharing your knowledge. Hope 2.0 will be here soon, with some bigger pictures or even a video? I read you've been busy, but we can always hope :)

Its great to see so many people having success with this method, getting better taste an vapor, but i'm really interested in how long your mods would last? Do you have to "rewick" it every week, or does it last for months? :)

One more thing: anyone knows if we could get this silica rope somewhere in Europe? How about those teabags? Do I have to buy Lipton tea, or can the material be bought somewhere?

Here's what I do with the pliers. Take a washcloth and put it around the outside of the atty to protect the finish. Then take the pliers and put one part on the OUTSIDE of the atty and the other on the opposite side of the needle itself and GENTLY close the pliers. This will pop the needle plate out.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the helpful hint I will try that.

You're going to way too much effort with the needleplate guys...

Pliers are not needed at all...

A simple key (one that fits of course) does the job... Shove it in down one side and push against the needle tip. Pressure will pop the assembly off where it sits and the whole thing will fall out when you tip it over... It does require a bit of force. (Same theory applies to using a screwdriver too)

I used to use my car keys every week for this purpose... Never had a problem, no wicks ever fell out or nothing.

I have used SimpleCJ's method successfully for months. Then I twice ordered some new Ego T attys direct from China and received two different types. They look exactly the same as the attys we all use. But both prevent me from doing my own re-wicking.

They both have the normal needle plate which can be removed in the usual way. But in one example the wick was actually wrapped in (and through the middle of) the heating coil with the two ends of the wick poking out the ends of the coil directed up through the needle plate. Which of course is impossible to thread back into the plate. I tried pulling this wick out from coil, the coil came out with it, so one destroyed atty!

The second example was 100% metal mesh which was 'bridged' over the coil and ended in a point which fed through the needle plate. I did manage to get the plate back in this one.

So these 'new' designs prevent re-wicking and dry burning where you can see the coil. Is this a plot to stop us re-wicking and to force us to buy attys more often?

Anyone else had this problem?

I got a couple of new attys a month ago. On one, I tried pulling the wick up from the top, but wound up pushing it down instead. When I removed the spike plate, the wick just fell apart completely.
But the atty was the normal looking one with a hole in the middle of the mesh and the coil in the hole.

I pulled a doubled over CE2 wick through the spike plate and used that. It doesn't seem to wick ask well as the original (lower flow rate), but maybe that's because I didn't use a mesh wrap around the wick.
