The Eye with a Kayfun 3.1:

The Eye with Kayfun.jpg

Taifun makes a 22mm ring. I don't have one because I'll use this with my Taifun GT's. The 22 mm ring, though, has a slant from 23mm to 22mm that should like fine. It doesn't look that bad as is, with a .5mm gap/overhand on each side. Also, I use my kay 3.1's with the Semovar in hybrid mode, which looks great, and vapes even better. Where the heck is the Kay 4.0? or even the 3.1 any more?

I've only had this for a few hours, so I can't give it much of a review yet. However, the quality is excellent. Feature wise, it's richer than the Provari or the Semovar. Variable Amperage? It has it. Probably won't use it. The real benefit to me is the .7 ohms. Sometimes I'll mess up a coil and dip below 1.0 ohms and can't get the thing to fire on the Provari or on the Semo. This one has no such issues. Also, until you fire the coil and form the alumina layers, the resistance can vary and also dip below firing range on the other two. The Eye does not have that problem, and that is the principle reason why this is now my favorite APV. The second is that it matches the Taifun GT, my favorite RTA, and device, day in and day out.

I don't really vape much above 12 ohms, but if I can build lower ohm coils, subohms, then that will go up to 15 to 20 watts, which this can do, and the Semo cannot do, the Provari has no VW, VV only.

The functionality is pretty easy. The Eye comes with a good manual in German......and English! So, no problem getting it up and running. 8 volts, so way better than similar APV's. Removeable ring allows tapering for different toppers, but also makes it easier to clean....a big plus I think. Looks wise, this is better than Provari or Semo, imho. Uses nipple batteries, so maybe not great for some, but I use AW's all the time. Just need more of them during the day, compared with some of my flat top batteries.

The 18650 tube is removable, like the Semo, and better than the Provari. A big plus, but it doesn't come with the other tubes that I would rarely use anyway, and I have plenty of APV's that can handle an 1835 or 18490/500. The Eye is way better looking than the Semo or Provari. It's a flat top at the 510 connection, so far better than the Provari. Bottom cap doesn't require a spring, so that's really great. So far, it's a heck of a good APV. Instantly my new favorite device. Me likee.......!

When I fired it for the first time....Big clouds, causing me to realize what low voltage drop and clean contacts means and often comes on a new APV. I haven't looked at the numbers yet, but I'll get to it soon. Since I haven't bought a new APV since last October, I was due, and I do remember the joy of a nice new one. Lucky me!

Busardo says this is between the Provari 2.5 and the 3.0. Not sure why it's not comparable, perhaps slightly better, than the 3.0 for Busardo??? From the little I know about the 3.0, this seems to be superior in many ways, but, we shall see. Ok, two cents....

Looks really cool with the KF too :) so how is the performance compared to the Semovar or the Provari?

Read my preliminary review. I have no numbers yet, but they are out there, and The Eye blows the Semo and Provari away performance wise. We've seen that review in previous posts. It's not even close. You may recall that information, and more numbers than we really need for a full evaluation. This one is easily outperforms the other two.

Great preliminary review! Thanks Bill..enjoy your new toy! The only downside I see is that it doesn't take flat tops..but That's not a deal breaker for me

but it does take flat tops, and the top ring is adjustable to allow all manner of airflow if you need it through the 510. The Taifun doesn't so it can sit completely flush, but you can have other models sit a bit proud and make up the gap with the top ring rather easily.

Oh..it does take flat top batteries not just button tops? That's great. How is the battery consumption though?

LOL! I thought you were referring to flat top tanks/toppers!

No, it only takes button top batteries. Sorry.....! :D

What did you think when I was talking about adjustments and air flow? Funny!!

Congratulations Bill................ Looks nice. No flat top batteries would force me to buy new batteries or use magnets. Most of mine are flat tops and I think I'm rotating six VTC5s right now... so thats a thumbs down (to me personally)
I like my TGT, so the 23mm would be nice, and after using my Wizard (21mm) using the futura or semo feels bigger, that one might feel like a beast? I dunno.

I've read the variable amperage is an awesome feature... and so is the boost mode. Two thumbs way up there... I'm curious how energy efficient it is, do the same batteries last longer, less at the same given wattage? I think the Semovar is not very efficient, and I usually have to change batteries more frequently vs my dna devices.

Love the boost mode on 2. Provides 150% of power for about 1 second and a terrific blast of vapor, then cools to normal setting and kicks the flavoring. Should be a requirement on ALL DEVICES, imho. While everything else is a device, this is an instrument. Best I've seen. Two cents...

Until the alumina layers form, the contact micro coil is shorting all over the place. Alumina forms on kanthal in three distinct and slightly different chemical layers, and is affected by surface conditions, adhesion, tension and surface contact. Why we have to fire several times to get a solid ohms reading. Alumina is the metallic oxide layer on kanthal.

LOLOL I'm kinda slippin' on the banana peel myself lately. You gotta take a few pratfalls every once in a while to get their attention.
