I got one of the very early ST Telescope mods back in August. The bottom button broke on mine within four days just by tightening the lock.

I considered it a fluke, and ordered another switch. One day my telescope rolled off the table and again the switch snapped at the same spot.
The post on these switches (at least on the ones I got from GV and MV) were made of a cheap pot metal or plastic, wrapped in a thin brass sleeve.

At any rate, I was recently told by GotVapes that they had never heard of this happening to anyone, which I find hard to believe given how easily mine repeatedly broke.

I am curious as to who else had their button break off at the shaft - please, no "mine works fine" posts. I'm only interested in how many of these actually broke.

I got my telescope back in October last year. Used it heavily and haven't been that gentle with it...so far no trouble with the switch. But I did hear some people had theirs break. I think they were the ones from the first run of the smok telescope...the ones that came out last Spring/Summer. Mine was a later model that was vented by smok at the factory rather than modded after market (with a mess of holes all over it...like the ones MV was selling last Fall). Maybe mine was built a bit better since it was a newer (not from the first release) model?

You can get replacement switch assemblies for the telescope at MV.

what makes the button assembly better about the chrome vs ss?

Quite a few things. The first thing I noticed was the sound the different buttons make, the chrome is a nice click when it makes connection, the stainless is a scratchy, scrape sort of sound that becomes quite annoying in a very short space of time. The chrome has a shorter throw, which is easier to use and actually makes the telescope about 7ml shorter with the same battery. The chrome has a thicker shaft and is pretty sturdy when you place the telescope on end, the stainless switch has a lot of play in it and sways like a tree in the breeze when standing up. The stainless comes loose and requires tightening regularly, never had to do this with the chrome switch. I like the spring in the chrome battery compared to the no spring stainless switch. The chrome is just a better switch all around for me, the stainless switch is junk. The actual stainless telescope is a great tube, nice threading and great for the kick with the threaded top cap.

Here's my review if you're interested:

Maybe you missed the part I wrote about not being interested in the "mine works fine" posts.

Again - in four years of vaping, I've never seen anything break as easily as this; rolling off the table onto the carpet snapped one of them. - I've been through three of the chrome-style buttons.

I can't be the only one. Who else?

The button issue is the reason I waited and decided to get a pinky "gg style" telescope mod. That and I heard some people had threading issues where either they showed or ate at the battery.

Glad I waited and grabbed a CCTS when it was on sale for $24-$26 ... can't remember.

Sorry to hear about the switch button breaking. :(

I see reports of that switch breaking all the time around here. Mine was still in one piece when I sold it, but I've never been so happy to get rid of a mod in my life. I pity the guy who bought it off me in the classies, but I was very up-front with how big a piece of crap I thought it was. I'm actually somewhat proud of that "for sale" post, and amazed that someone actually bought my "robotic tampon" after how I described it.

Anyway, I've also seen reports of people using a simple screw to fix it.
