Smoktech groove recall

From what I've seen in reviews, they use the same board as all the sigelei stuff... I can't say I'm a huge fan of their menuing system.

The Groove's menu system is as easy as it gets and a pleasure to use. As far as it's longevity and durability.....it's hard to say, as the mods themselves seem to crap out inside of 6 months. I just wish someone would put out a quality vw box mod with a (+ -) menu system that is affordable. The Opus D with the dna20 board and power wheel looks awesome but...... $250???? 1500mah internal?? Really??? Can someone just point me to a talented modder to make me a quality vw box once and for all?

My plastic groove was crapping out on me and I was going to send it back to CCV but it is out of warranty (90 days) bought Feb 2nd, and when I saw the recall I took a look inside just to be safe and the + solder tab with the wire was hanging by a thread from the battery.Well I guess I can send it back now.

So, I put a ticket in with Madvapes. Response I got was they were checking to see if this recall is even valid....... what do you all think? The Smoktech announcement looks pretty valid to me. I have 2 Grooves from MV. The email MV sent was pretty short and not what I would call informative or promoting of good customer service. Meh.

been saying this for awhile dont buy any device that uses flat LiPo batterys, all it takes is a short ,dent or tear in there aluminum foil cover and they ignite violently,i have been using them for years in my RC hobbys i would never want one of these near my face,have had them melt right through my planes body in mid flight for no apparent reason.

Yeh. I think you're right. I have the stainless Groove. I took out the middle screws on both sides. I think that solved the problem.

From what little I've read and seen on youtube, it seems the battery may not be properly intact/secured in the metal Grooves, and possibly the plastic Grooves. Also, the battery seems to have a marginal wrap around it, making it prone to being punctured. This seems to be the case with the metal Groove because of the pointed screws on the sides of the unit protruding into a jarred loose battery. I don't see any way for this to happen with the plastic Groove because the screw assembly is different. Any thoughts on my assumption??

I don't know. Probably to make it safer. I didn't say that the only issue is the screws. I said that I think that I solved the problem by removing the screws in the middle on both sides.

I thought they stopped making them. Where did you hear about the protection circuit being installed? I planned on keeping mine but if they are coming out with an improved model I might trade it in for a new one.

I never owned a Groove but had an email exchange with one of my favorite vendors about the recall. As of yesterday SMOK had not yet notified them about the recall. Not at all cool.

Hopefully your vendor will contact Smok about the recall.....doing nothing after receiving knowledge of the recall (which you gave them) is not cool either....

My vendor contacted all their Groove customers immediately with offers of a full refund or exchange for something else.

Suggested Disposal Way:

To end users:
1do not throw or slap the groove battery
2)do not disassemble the groove battery
3)do not hide or drop the groove battery

Why are vendors telling people to send them back in?? It will not be great if a postal works drops a package and it goes thermal. It really won't be great if one goes thermal on a plane. Are these people thinking?
They should have people's order nos, or can ask to see invoices.

I follow what you are saying......how can the vendor and Smok be sure the defective units get destroyed if they are not returned to the vendor? Not all peeps are as honest as we are......lol.....
