I'm so past simple tube APVs its not even funny :)

I think I can speak for the rest of the coop members when I say that we can only aspire to some day achieve you level of superiority. We're all just humble vape-noobs who are truly thankful to have people like you to protect us from ourselves.

Geez, my post didn't even last 30 seconds.

Guess I know what vendor I won't be buying from now.

As far as i know a hot spring needs to be part of the circuit to actually work. That one looks like its just there to push the battery up. Only way that spring would heat up and collapse is long after the battery vented

    Ding-ding-ding
And we have a winner ... end of the hot spring argument, there is an insulator between the spring and the battery.

I am only disagreeing on the bic lighter hitting a minimum 1000 degrees part.

What does that have to do with the temp a bic lighter reaches and if it is a valid test?

It covered in soot almost immediately. The longer time I thought I saw a little glow through it, but it was hard to tell. It cooled down pretty rapidly, so when I read 220 it may have hit higher for a seonc while I grabbed the gun...but not 800 degrees higher.

Im not saying Ehow is an authority of any kind.. Im just saying the fuel inside does have a minimum burning temperature.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I find it funny that half the responses are arguing about the temperature of a lighter flame.

IR temp guns measure a surface temp. If you point it into a flame it won't register. Heat up the end of a spring and all that's happening is a transfer of heat at the points of the spring that touch the flame. The rest of the spring acts as a heat sink and an IR gun reading will be relatively low.

I've tested many thermostats. A lighter would take forever, for the reason I mentioned above. I always used a propane torch. A thermostat that is working will open in a second or two, but that gives you no clue to the opening temp. If you're willing to waste $50 worth of time to test a $2 thermostat, use boiling water instead.

Cage024 got it right. A short circuit will heat the entire mass of the spring at once nearly instantly. Even if it "collapses," who's to say that will do any good if the ends weld/stick to their contacts? I'd be wary of one of these telescope mods but sure don't hate on it because of that. People buy dangerous things every day. Motorcycles, fireworks, um... cigarettes?

I hear you.. I don't think anyone hates the PV - I think people hate the reaction of others when you express your opinion. The issues raised by people about this PV is being handled very poorly.

Y'know I'm really against nannies whether they be well meaning people or governments. I try to educate myself to make good decisions in life, I really do. I read as may differing and contrary viewpoints as possible, think about what I read and then decide my course. That is how I came to vaping when I finally woke up and found there was a better way to get my nicotine fix.

I just have this voice in the back of my head reading all this and watching that review. It goes "an airtight mod with a hot spring isolated from the metal (circuit?) with a big gob of glue on one end and a plastic ring on the other" brought to you by the same country that has already brought you lead painted toys for children, cadmium jewelry for children, milk products that poisoned humans and pet food that poisoned animals, all in the name of profit for the producer.

I'm gonna sit this one out, attractive mod or not.

I'm not going to holler and say close the co op, or anything else about this new product except that I'm going to wait, watch to see if they revise this product with an eye toward venting and safety.

By his own admission, this mod will never meet the standards of the original poster to be safe and remain 100% mechanical.

The "reviewer" posted yesterday "Nothing will convince me that sealing up the battery like this, in an all mechanical mod, with no electronic safety measure, could ever be safe." See http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/gotvapes/322348-battery-info-safety-sticky.html#post6909280

Based on this, you could have the whole unit be "swiss cheesed" with vent holes and slots; the "reviewer" would still be claiming it to be unsafe. He expects some form of electronic switch or fusing in the mod.

Ok, because I like to test out things, here is a photo of the "washer" that holds the pin in. It's black.

So it was brought to my attention that this was a safety device and that if a battery failed, it would melt and the switch would pop out creating a vent.

This is not true. This piece is metal. I scratched some of the black off and you can see the metal. Also, I tried to remove it and it doesn't want to come off.

So...I restate it...this mod is not safe.

As for the lighter...I held it to the spring for longer off video...got it very hot and there was no movement in the spring. It's not scientific...but I imagine it would have at least moved?

I think he is saying that having an air tight tube with no venting ("sealing up the battery like this") is not safe with an all mechanical mod. Not that mechanical mods are all unsafe. An all mechanical mod by definition does not have electronic safety features. However most of them have some form of venting at the least.

I think it was just messed up wording.. he also goes on to say not to buy it until it has vent holes and a hot spring. I think he ment a safety measure dealing with the electricity - like a hot spring, stopping the current from flowing.

You are not reading that right.

The key word there is "sealing". So if it was completely sealed, but had electronic safety features, like and eGo, that would be fine with me.

If you had an all mechanical mod with electronics in it, it would no longer be a mechanical mod.

This mod with a hot spring and vent holes would be fine.

Please note that that was in response to someone mocking me and saying that if the telescope is not safe becUse it's sealed, well then either is an eGo.

So really, your whole rant above is for nothing.

That's a very common fastener in the automotive world, I probably have several hundred of them out in the garage.
I wouldn't want to be around when it got hot enough to melt.

All I can go on is what you wrote that I linked to:

"A telescopic mod is more likely to have stacked batteries placed in it then most other mods. That is one reason why people buy them.

Single battery mods have not exploded but most mods do have hot springs. Like I said...I had a P+ hot spring collapse on me. I also had a Galileo Telescopic mod that I had a collapsed hot spring on. Grimm Green just had a shorted vivi nova take out two batteries.

All single battery instances, user saved by safety measures.

There are no excuses, there are no "it's not likely" statements. Nothing will convince me that sealing up the battery like this, in an all mechanical mod, with no electronic safety measure, could ever be safe. It's a gamble, do you have faith that your battery and charger are working just fine? By all means...go for it."

Nowhere can I tell that you're differentiating this comment to an eGo device. All I see is "telescoping mod" and "mechanical mod. If I'm misrepresenting the statement, that is why.

No rant here, just at the point of not caring anymore.

You are not reading that right.
