LOL yep would take a lot of heat to brake down one of those.

There used in shafts as retainers for moving parts in the auto industry as well as many other individuates.

There made to resist warping at high heat as to allow movement in a harsh environment.

I have seen them as small as 1/32 and as large as 12 inches in diameter.

In less they developed a special alloy just for this allocation I would bet this is a standard Clip Washer

Just my 2c nothing more :)

That's a very common fastener in the automotive world, I probably have several hundred of them out in the garage.
I wouldn't want to be around when it got hot enough to melt.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I find it funny that half the responses are arguing about the temperature of a lighter flame.

I was far less than half ;) But, I thank you...explaining why I saw something on my IR gun that was opposite of something commented on I was skeptical of was very useful to me. It seemed strange, and I thought I saw plenty of over reacting and one thing I could do to contribute. I was incorrect, but I did try :)

The e-clip will not fail. If the center pin of the switch contacts the battery and you continue to hold the switch what disconnects the cell? Letting off the button? Can the button be pressed if the mod is put in a pocket, or purse?
Is there a lockout, or master switch? How do you keep it from firing?

If the spring holds the cell against the positive contact, but is not connected to ground, why does it need to be a hot spring? If there is no current flowing through the spring a hot spring would do nothing.
Does the glue in the bottom just hold the spring in place?
BTW: a collapsing hot spring may never could back to proper tension. Maybe testing them is 'destructive'.

Two things I find questionable, and might need fixing by the owner:

Is the inside of the case insulated to prevent a cell case short to ground firing the atty without a button press?
If it is not insulated, insulate it. Roll up a 20 dollar bill or plastic playing card.
Use a perforated sleeve for cells smaller than 18mm diameter to keep them aligned to each other.

Unless this mod is strong enough to totally contain the pressure of a failed (or two failed ) cells without driving out the atty connector then venting around the lower end is needed.

I dunno know...

I kinda like it when People go out and try to Test Stuff and set up Desk Top Experiments instead of just Excepting what Others say.

Kinda like this Telescoping Mod.

I'd love to have one and test it with Air Pressures Closer to what a Venting Battery could Output instead of a Balloon. Maybe hook it up to an Air Compressor or something. But I don't have one.

A Telescoping Mod that is. I have Three Air Compressors.

Thanks-I am just not one to take something only at someone's word when it seems I have a way to confirm or deny for myself.

What I would love and mentioned in the GV battery thread...if someone knew how to force a failure on a battery in one of these, I would chip in towards the cost. I want to know what happens when a battery vents or explodes in one. Explodes I think is pretty obvious, but venting...I'm curious. I just don't know how to make it happen. I am considering putting an 18650 in and taping the button down to see if it overheats and does anything.

I have one coming from the co-op I don't plan to use if you really want to destroy a battery in one to see what will happen.

I offered it back to anyone on standby for the co-op, not sure if there will be any takers or not.

I have one coming too. If someone can tell me how to force a battery failure and you donate yours, I will donate the battery and get video of it.

I personally am not looking to destry mine...I still like the idea.

When I was in College I read this Article in Popular Science (I think, it was only 25 years ago.) and it was about the Underwriter’s Laboratory.

I thought, “How Cool would that Be”. To get paid to think up ways to Destroy Things. Destructive Testing is where it’s at!

Yeah the Balloon Test Probably doesn’t Exactly Replicate the Pressures involved with a Battery Venting under Failure. And I’m not sure how to make a Battery Fail so it Vents.

Also Time is a Factor. Meaning when a Battery Vents, I Imagine that it happens Relatively Quickly. Maybe one of the Battery Geeks here on the ECF would know.

Well, someone else in the co-op wants it, so I'm going to let it go. The buyer is fully aware of this issue, so it's his choice.

I think we should start UVL (Underwriter's Vapors Laboratories) where OEM's send us all there Cool New Mods and then we Torture Test them to earn the UVL Seal of Approval.

Just firing it continuously wouldn't usually cause battery venting. A carto with a damaged connector causing a dead short might though. If it's a protected battery it will shut off (assuming the protection works!) but an unprotected one will heat up as it try's to dump all it's charge at once, and if allowed to run it might "go thermal" and vent.

It goes without saying that this is likely to be dangerous, particularly in a sealed tube, and I wouldn't want to be standing anywhere near it

I considered the shorted carto...and running behind cover. My batteries are all protected, might not work even then.

Would that be considered 'fabrication and detonation of an explosive device'?
You could charge the ATF team admission :)

I "Thought about" putting an M80 in one one my flashlight mod,
setting it off and then "thought about" posting the video of the end cap flying off across the yard and the mod moving about 6 inches.
Just "thought about" it, didn't really blow anything up.

Sure glad I didn't actually do it :)

I was *SO* confused for a moment. The layout looked like ECF but the content sounded like /b/.

Thanks for the video. Honestly, I don't know much about electronics, but my husband does. Has a super official sheet of paper about it and everything. Asked him what he thought, he agreed. So, I'll steer clear of this one.
