Well I just dashed into Seattle and picked up some General White Portion and General Wintergreen White Portion and have to say what a difference in taste from the Camel snus. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.

I like them both. I actually gravitate toward salty things to the General White Portion is good to me. I like the nic hit more than the Camel snus too.

It was more expensive than buying it online (which I will do from now on) but I wanted some now.

Ironically I am finding that I like snusing more than vaping. I can do it anywhere, I seem to get more nic from it, and no recharges or refils of carts. Plus the added benefit of years of research and regulation. I can see occasionally vaping for the extra nic and motions, but I think snusing is my future.

Agree with everything you said.

If your a nicotine addict, and I certainly am, snus is an awfully good place to be.

The legal issues are another side of it. Snus isn't completely in the clear but it's looking much better then e-cigs. It's very likely e-cigs are going to be toast. Outside of a miracle a ban is a given. This includes US suppliers, US manufactures (Johnson Creek and Puresmoker), and yes, even individual shipments from China. I feel a lot better having Swedish Match and R.J. Reynolds on my side over Smoke Everywhere and njoy.

I have no doubt without a good source of reduced harm nicotine I would be right back on cigarettes without a moments hesitation. I have real doubts as to how many e-cig users are going to make it.

Right there are indeed the legal issues. It is likely there won't be an outright ban on e-cigs, just that they will have to go through the approval process. In any case we are looking at a minimum 2 year gap between where we are now, and where we end up (no way to actually predict what the state of e-cigs will be after the approval, could be good, could be bad, who knows).

In May the US House passed the PACT act (Snus News & Other Tobacco Products: U.S - PACT legislation passed by House..) which will cut off the US from any outside tobacco products (EXCEPT cigars for some unknown reason). I read somewhere that one of the reasons they are trying to get the e-cig classified as a tobacco product is that they can use the law to also stop the juice importation.

This will still leave us with Camel snus and I believe General as I think they actually have a US plant, and in the event that happens a couple other Swedish snus plants may open in the US, naturally it will be more expensive due to taxes, but given the choice between cigarettes and snus, I will take snus any day.

Just found this thread. I have an Iolite that I'd like to try Snus in but I don't even know how it's pronounced (Snoose?) or where to get it. But I went to getsnus.com and they are offering a sample tin (is that what it comes in..looked like it) for $1.00 shipping. So I got that and will try it in my Iolite. I wanted the Iolite so if e-cigs get banned, I can still vape in a sense.

It's "snoose" like moose. That's interesting, never even heard of it (found this link: Iolite Vaporizer - Portable Herbal Vaporizer Portable Vaporizers on Sale - VaporStore.com).

Uses butane, heats to 374 deg Fahrenheit, don't think I could take it in carry-on though. Still not completely sure "what" it vaporizes? It's not cheap that's for sure.

I found out about the Iolite as an alternative if e-cigs are banned and purchased one. I have put e-liquid in it and it works, but not like the e-cigs. But most people like Snus in it and you are still vaporizing and not burning tobacco, etc.

I don't know what type of stores carry it, I've never seen it on the shelves, I heard that it needs to be refrigerated, just don't know for sure. But now I can try it. I don't ever want to go back to analogs.

Yes, it's expensive, but once you purchase it, no more atomizers, no batteries, etc. So I would think in time it would be well worth the cost. Also, if e-liquids get hard to get, the Snus would work. It's not anything like being off analogs like the e-cigs are, but hey, if these items for the e-cigs get hard to get, the Iolite will be great.

Too, DH is getting ready to retire and I've oodles and oodles of stash so I won't have to put out the money, but if times get to where buying atty's and batteries is too much, I've got my Iolite and I can just buy butane and Snus. It's an alternative, not one I want to have to use, but at least, again, it's an alternative.

Interesting. You can get the American Camel snus at most 7-11 stores here and smoke shops. General (a Swedish snus) is available in about 5 of the smoke shops around me but you can go online to their site and do a "where to buy" locator (General ® Snus | The Original Swedish Snus ™ by Swedish Match ©), and of course for the moment you can order online until that too is banned.

I believe you only need to refrigerate before opening, once it's open it last a couple weeks in the container (heat is the enemy to quote someone here). I keep it in the fridge when I have extra containers (even open) and just keep my current can with me.

I would be curious on how this works, please update us once you try it :)

Thanks Coder. Went to the above site and filled out the form for the free packet, but they are out of samples and said I may get one sometime in September. Then I checked for a store close to me and got the window that said "sorry there is no stores within 25 miles of you", so I guess I'd be stuck ordering online or at least finding a store further away.

I'll let you know how it works when I get some in.

I get far more nicotine from my snus than from e-smoking, Coderguy. And it's so much easier to use snus in public -- NO ONE KNOWS. I'm still combining all the stay-off-cigs stuff, as that seems to work best for me.

Good to know it's not just me. I am loving snus and so greatfull you turned me on it (thank you!). Today I was shopping with family and strolling around the store thinking, "I love my snus, getting my nic and everyone is clueless" LOL

What's the difference between swedish snus and the stuff you get in the USA?

I have very limited experience as I have only tried the Camel Frost/Mellow and two of the General Swedish snuses. From my experience the Camel is much sweeter, sort of saccharine-y, smaller size (.6mg compared to 1mg Swedish), less salty, doesn't last as long (although I had my Frost in for a couple hours and it still had flavor), and only has 4mg of nicotine compared to the 8mg in the "average strength" Swedish snus (there are stronger ones).

I am finding I like both though. In the morning the salty General is too much so I popped Camel Frost and it was perfect. Later General was fine.

I have an order in to Northerner.com to try a few more flavors. In a conversation with TropicalBob (the resident snus expert) we had a discussion about people liking to have a variety of different snus flavors on hand as tastes change very rapidly with snus.

try buysnus.com

Yes, I second this. I have ordered from them twice, and in both cases got my order back very quickly, even though it was shipped from Sweden.

The expiry on the cans suggest that the stuff they ship is about as fresh as you could hope for.

Buy Snus, Order Swedish snus online world wide - BuySnus.com

If you go through them, just have it sent through Swedish Post/USPS, and don't bother with UPS.

Getsnus.com has a free sample can too. You pay shipping.

I ordered my free sample can, and then got 4 cans to try.
So ordered:
2 General mint and wintergreen
2 Offroad mint and wintergreen
1 general white portion

Shipping was 1.00 for the sample can, and 2.95 for the others (two orders)..
Should be enough to get a good impression.
