There are currently 38,000 different sects of Christianity. This makes me so sad. We are so divided, so separated, all because we vary slightly in our beliefs.

List of Christian denominations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's no wonder the world looks at all of our own internal conflicts and doesn't want to get involved. This is why I don't belong to a church, and won't identify with any particular denomination.

Of course, they all think they are right and everybody else is wrong. Well, they are all wrong, because there isn't a person on this earth that has it 100% right, it's not even possible. And yes, even non-denominational is it's own sect too, so that doesn't work either. Just more division.

So instead of uniting as one family under our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we separate and point fingers at each other and try to pick each other apart and find fault. I can't even imagine how this makes God feel. It makes me sad because I can see it for what it really is since I don't belong.

I wish there were just one church, the church of JESUS and that's it. Maybe someday, if I ever find that church I would join and find a spiritual home instead of being a single and lonely spiritual wanderer.

...all because we vary slightly in our beliefs.

It's worse than that. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all share the same religious root; and despite the differences in doctrine and prophets, they teach many of the same morals.

For every way in which we differ, there are a thousand in which we agree.

Jesus is praying:
May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25"Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

Where is our complete unity? In Christ! Where are our divisions? In doctrine....may our doctrine not become our God!

But I'm afraid that it has. Everyone is so worried about being right about everything that they separate, isolate, segregate, and this damages the body of Christ. This is why we have so many sects, none of which are united. Everyone is so concerned with details, pointing the finger, finding flaws, that they forget the most important thing. We are all brothers and sisters under Jesus Christ.

If you believe in and put your faith in Jesus Christ alone, His message of salvation........then you are a Christian.......period. That includes all sects and denominations are all God's children and yet we are so quick to judge eachother and peg each other as wolves in sheeps clothing, false prophets, so much so that we alienate our brothers and sisters, and also ourselves in the long run.

It makes me feel so bad.

Care to expand on that?

Are you disagreeing with the idea that all sects of Christianity, Judaism and Islam have more in common than they have to disagree about, or are you disagreeing with their common historical roots?

I disagree that they all have more in common that they disagree about. Jesus as the messiah is the main teaching and main focus of the christian faith. Jews and Muslims do not believe this at all, they completely reject it.

Judaism & Christianity share the exact same roots, Islam not so much.. I'll expand on Islam and the Koran because my ex husband was a Muslim and I've read the Koran. The Allah of the Koran can not be the same God as the Yahweh God of Judaism/Christianity and the Holy Bible because of these following differences that the Koran espouses; The Koran teaches that Christ was born of a virgin named Mary like the Bible, but Christ is NOT the Son of God, because far be it from God to lay with a Woman and He has no sons or daughters..and that means WE'RE not to consider ourselves Sons or Daughters either... Christ was merely a good Messenger and one of God's Prophets.. that's all. He did NOT die on the cross for our sins, God cared for Christ too much to make Him suffer that sort of humiliation, so he 'caught' Christ up to Himself only making it 'appear to the crowds that Christ had been crucified, when in fact He had not'.. now I don't know Saints, but that's a form of 'deception' (lie) to me and our God of the Bible is not a Man that He can lie, His thoughts are not our thoughts, His ways are not our ways, and He doesn't lie by deception or omission. There's tons more issues than those, but if you look at non radical mainstream Islam as a whole, they 'believe' they serve the 'same' God as the Judaic/Christian God and they are peaceful people on that level as a whole, so we have little to fear from them.. in fact, the opposite. My Islamic Sister in Laws did more for me and were better friends to me than any friends I've had here in the United States. It's the MEN I can't tolerate.. even the mainstream ones. They treat Women like Chattel and Dirt.. because to them in that culture, they are.. it's sad because the Women are so awesome both inside & out.. and so truly victimized by their circumstances (This is another story, another 'cause' for me... lol..I digress, I'm sorry). Again, We only have the radical fundamentalists to fear.. Islam is such a huge Religion worldwide now... the radicals number in the tens of MILLIONS, so this is why we will have major problems with them in the future, especially the Nation of Israel, which they have determined to 'wipe out' and finish what Hitler (their Hero) had started. We're to love & pray for them nonetheless... even if they hate us & persecute us... God has got everything under control and the 'good news' is, in the 'end' we win. Shalom

This is for sure! Thanks for mentioning this Lisa as I forgot to add that while Judaism & Christianity share the same 'roots' they part paths when Jesus enters into the equation. (lol)

A true christian will follow BIBLE doctrine.- Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and DOCTRINE. Most people don't even read the bible, they just go by what is preached or told to them. Apostasy is everywhere - t.v. radio, seminaries, churches, - teaching false doctrines.
Why are the sucessful?? The apostle Paul said - "the time will come when men will not put up w/sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. They shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables" ( 2 Timothy 4:3,4)

One cannot vary in their belief if they follow BIBLE DOCTRINE

Amein! People would rather believe a lie than the truth, even if the truth is told to them, like the Arab people. I read a book by an Arab with a doctrate in the Koran....teaching it. He eventually became a Christian and was making points about Islam. He closed with a plea, "Don't hate the Arab people. Hate their religion." I loaned the book to my dentist and he lost it. I don't even remember the name of it. Who am I????:p This is where I learned that allah was a moon god....not to be confused with THE GOD of the Bible.

I feel for these women. I've seen pictures where their face looks like they hate their lives. I am so thankful I live in America with a Christian man who loves and respects me. Thank You, Jesus!

Yea, but the only problem with that is they all claim to follow bible doctrine. Everyone interprets somethings differently, and they all believe that their interpretation is the right one and everyone else is wrong.

Lisa,
I agree with your statement about Islam and Judaism rejecting Christ. I also have to say it is more than faith and belief in Christ that makes one Christian. It is the complete acknowledgment that Christ is the Messiah and He came down from Heaven and (this is the key part) He died freely for my sins so that I could have life everlasting. It may seem a minor point but faith and belief mean nothing without the complete acceptance of Christ dying for my sins. I think that is why during Holy Communion I often have tears running down my face. That God would send His only Son to die for me, to absolve me of sin, makes me feel incredibly humble that God would give me such a gift. All that was require of me is welcoming Jesus as my Savior into my life and turn it over to Him, for without Him I am nothing.

I only read and follow KJV 1611 Bible - all the rest have been changed around added to or deleted.. Example, New Standard version, Good Time Bible etc. Over 40,000 changes made in the New Standard Version alone compared to KJV 1611. Most Christians would throw those in the trash if they knew. Years ago, everyone thought it was just being made easier to read. 99 3/4 % of the population is not going to read each one and compare words. These newer bibles have infiltrated most churches. Satan at work again, never stops, be vigilant
